Error trying to configure software for 828mkii firewire

Post by 10AK »

Hello,

I am running windows 2000, cubase sx2, and a motu 828mkII firewire version. For some time now, I have been unable to access the motu audio configuration application in windows. I get the following error:

"The motu firewire audio can not be configured while audio is running. Close all audio application and try again."

The problem is that I am running no audio software, and no other apps at all when I get this error.

If there are already posts with respect to this issue, I apologize for I have not been able to find anything that comes close to what I am having trouble with in previous threads. If you have had this problem before, or if you know anything about this your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Current Set Up: Motu 828mkII Firewire, MPC 2000XL, Korg MS2000B, Cubase 4, Logic 9, M-Audio BX5s, Stanton T-80, BLUE Microphone- Baby Bottle, MacBook Pro, and assorted VSTs

remember that adobe flash/quicktime/shockwave are "audio apps" so close IE or firefox and try again.
also check if Nero or some other bloated software is monitorng your CD drive. (take out any disc in slot). Also open Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL ) and look for anything "audio related" (like winamp agent, itunes, mediaplayer etc etc). and one-by-one *end process* and check the console between task , then you can pinpoint the problem.

Reeper,

Problem solved, the on board sound card that came with the computer was running in the task manager even though I had disabled the hardware for it.

I really appreciate your help, thank you very much.

Reeper,

I have an Acer 7720 laptop that I have been trying to get to work with my MOTU 828mkii for the past month or so. The 828 unit works well with my desktop system and always has for the past several years. I am using an ExpressCard with a T.I. chipset on the laptop. I just installed driver 3.6.8.1360 and wish to report that the drivers installed without issue. However, when I attempt to bring up the Audio Console, I get the message "The MOTU Audio device can not be configured while audio is running. Close all audio apps and try again." I have utilised the Task Manager/Processes and deleted most everything there. (only 20 processes active) XP, 32bit, SP2. Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, 2.0 Ghz, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 8400M GS.

The prior driver, 3.6.8.1369, installed quite well too. But I could never get any sound as long as I had the MOTU selected in the CONTROL PANEL/SOUNDS. I could select the RealTek and get sounds from the crappy laptop speakers. I have the exact issue with this new driver, 3.6.8.1360.

I feel like things are very close to working, but just not quite there yet. I am soooo tired of jacking with the laptop, I am about ready to throw it out! NOT! I need portability too much!

Any suggestions? I will try most anything at this point.

Thanks,
Twinkie

Additional input...

When I bring up the Cuemix console (Yes, it actually will present itself), there seems to be quite a bit of lag in the system response. If I attempt to set a knob or slider, it will revert back to 0 after a few seconds. I know I have read about this symptom before, but thought I'd pass it along as it is happening here as well.

Hey, Thanks for the reply and link. To tell the truth, I have read so many entries on this and other websites that I can hardly remember where to find anything again for reference. I have read about all the topics here that seem to vaguely be similar to my issue. I agree with others... someone needs to fix whatever is broke. I for one cannot do it. I can test things and try things, but I don't write code. I would very much like to make music in a portable/mobile manner with my new laptop with (as MOTU states) a T.I. chipset!

So, am I understanding you (Reeper) that you are developing new drivers for the 32 bit XP users?

Is there anything else that can be done?

Or do I just get a different interface?

Or what?

I am soooooo frustrated and tired of playing techie with these drivers.

Thanks for any additional inputs from you all.
