Right on W man.
I think you guys picked up on something that could be my issue too and that seems to be disk access and response to moves which pull up audio from MIDI with VI's..
I really think there might be something to this now that I have read these posts. We used to be able to adjust buffers for access and now it's an automatic thing. What up with that?

Re: DP 6.01 behaving well anyone else?
I've been experiencing the same problem from DP 5.12 through 5.13 and now possibly in DP 6.01. In 5.12 and 5.13, DP freezes up while I'm edge editing, applying fades and crossfades and shifting the cursor around in the sequence window. When I force quit and relaunch I get the rescued takefiles window. At first I panicked over this but it's become fairly standard over time. I haven't lost a file this way. I've so far been unable to resolve this through techlinks on the MOTU site. Now I've had my first crash in DP 6.01. This time it occurred when I loaded a couple of chunks and their soundbites into an empty project. I changed a couple of things in the consolidated window and then saved. Then I was going to quit but saw that save was not grayed out so I saved again. This time save was grayed out so I closed the project only to get a window prompting me to save or lose changes. This time when I hit save DP crashed. I sent a report to Apple and woke up really early to discuss this with MOTU tech support. I'm running a mac pro 10.5.5 2 x 2.8 quad core and I should maybe also mention that I'm not using any of the MIDI stuff in DP. Apple support has been very good. Not so for MOTU. This might be a case for switching to Logic.

Sorry for breaking the thread here. I am running DP6 on a G5 dual 2.5ghz with 6.5 gigs of ram. I am getting a lot of crackles on my sessions and for some reason, I notice that my activity monitor spikes up. Now, this is not the cpu monitor from dp. That one does not even make it half way. It is driving me insane here. I feel that I am making my machine work twice as harder than before when I would make the same kind of sessions on dp5.I run video out and I am not using the streamers in real time. Most of my sessions consist of Kontakt 3 and East west Symphony Orchestra (platinum).
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!!
Oscar
I have the same problem with CPU spikes and crackles in the audio. I have been trying to figure this out for a while. It is really hard to mix when you hear all that noise. It seems to be related to Liquid Mix for me. I need to finish some mixes that I started in 5.13 using a lot of LM. Can anyone help?

Re: DP 6.01 behaving well anyone else?
Hi folks
Just spent the day working on my new DP6 and had two crashes which invoked the rescued takefiles window on relaunch. The first crash occured early in the day while editing in the sequence window like I described happening in DP 5 in my other post. The second crash happened at the end of the day and all I did was delete some audio and hit the space bar. My audio performance meter is spiking a lot when I grab the cursor, relocate it and let go. Always has. Seeing some of the other posts I realize just how much can go wrong and maybe I should count myself lucky. Is there such a thing as a perfectly functioning combination of computer and software ?

try using the show active layer shortcut to hide all automation... does this stop your repeatable crash.. I have been having the odd crash on save on my macpro and intellyimac.... big projects?kassonica wrote:Crowdad wrote:I had that on my old G4 1.25 lappy and DP 4.61 spent over 400 hours on one project and wait for it, NOT ONE SINGLE CRASH and it was running lotsa tracks and reason. Is there such a thing as a perfectly functioning combination of computer and software

Thanks for that.
No not too big medium I suppose. Yep pro tower and I clocked the automation thing but we shouldn't have to hide it just to save or edit

So...
I had a tech come out and replace my startup drive, logic board, and original 2G of RAM, as per an Apple specialist's recommendation. Installing everything from scratch, I checked Waves plugs first and they loaded normally (almost instantaneously). However, loading a recent DP 6.0.1 file (I work with project files on a separate internal drive) it crashed on opening again, and after loading the offending chunk in a new project, I got a blank window again from the pull down Audio menu when I tried to bounce to disk (the keyboard shortcut worked fine, as always, for the bounce). I haven't tried working on a project from scratch to see if these issues still persist...

I think I found the culprit. On a new mix, I had some UAD and iZotope plugs loaded and everything was fine. I added the Sonnox Inflator, and the Bounce to Disk and Set Bite Gain windows from the Audio pull-down menu opened up blank; when I removed the Inflator the windows opened properly. Also, with the Inflator instantiated, DP crashed upon opening; without it, DP opened up just fine. I have the Sonnox TransMod also, but I haven't tested it to see if it causes the same issues that the Inflator does.

Re: DP 6.01 behaving well anyone else?
Wow, what a difference shutting down Mail made! That was the ONLY program I would leave up during DP sessions, so I could inform bandmates and musical collaborators of progress and/or post questions while deep in a session.
Based on some earlier hints here, I decided to close out Mail before each and every DP session, and this has dramatically improved performance and reliability.
Suddenly, I can use SoundToys plug-ins again without having the controls go all jumpy. And the number of simultaneous tracks that can support SoundToys and IK Multimedia plug-ins has not yet hit a new limit (before, it was four maximum, before having to do stem mixes before a final BTD operation).

So inflator was was inflating your crash count? Glad you figured that one out!dinobass wrote:I think I found the culprit. Yeah, I'm stunned when I open activity monitor and see all the network activity even with no internet programs open.... The next step is to turn off my airport while working with DP...mhschmieder wrote:Wow, what a difference shutting down Mail made! Re: DP 6.01 behaving well anyone else?
I wonder if the Apple buss on these new fangled computer has some traffic light errors. These SCSI serial drives are supposed to be real fast but I think disc access may be to blame. I'll bet when crashes happens, audio is being polled for most of them. As a hard drive becomes more fragmented that that too could ass to the insanity.
Check the red lights on the performance meter on crashes and see if they glow.

Re: DP 6.01 behaving well anyone else?
For what it's worth...
I was having all kinds of problems after installing DP6 and 6.01. i posted before that i was having instant crashes upon applying a simple crossfade. program was very sluggish. saving was extremely slow. save while play function seemed like it wasn't possible with the new and improved DP6. overall performance was unworkable. DP5 was working flawlessly however. i have a G5 dual 2.3 PPC with 6.5 gigs and 2 internal drives.
As i write today, i have fixed all problems. i reformatted and reinstalled OSX 10.4.11 and all prior programs and plugins. i use a second internal drive to record to, as well as store all sound libraries. however, this time i installed DP on the second drive. not sure if this has anything to do with the total improvement of DP...but everything is much better...almost perfect, dare i say.
i feel like i got a new puter and new gear! with 512 buffer settings, VI's play as good if not better than when set to 256 in DP5. some Vi's play pretty damn good at 1024 too. and no more spikes with most VI's.
i am in love with DP and my computer again. i was minutes away from buying Logic.
i highly recommend doing what i did if you had any of the same problems
peace
