Problems to get 8pre to work proper with MK3

Post by peddap »

Hi,

When I connect my 8pre to the MK3 through ADAT (1 cable - OUT 8Pre/IN ADAT A MK3) I got a problem.
If I use channel 2 on the 8pre it spreads over MK3 ADAT A1 to A3 at least.

Is there somebody out there that could sort this out for me?

I use 44,1 kHz and one ADAT cable. The firewire for 8pre are connected through MK3 to my DAW.
MK3 internal are used for sync.

It is necessary to use two ADAT "lightpipes" - ADAT "OUT" from the MKIII to ADAT "IN" on the 8Pre and ADAT "OUT" from the 8Pre to ADAT "IN" on the MKIII.

If your Firewire connection to the 'puter is from the 8Pre you will have to sync the MK3 to whichever Optical Bank you are connected to on the 8Pre.

It appears I misunderstood your problem. So sorry!

I understand that the MKIII is the primary interface and is providing the sync for both itself and the 8Pre because the two are daisy-chained on the 1394 buss. In this instance the one ADAT "lightpipe" is adequate (the two are synced via the 1394 buss).

Remember that the 8Pre has four busses and each one accomodates two output channels. So, in order to keep microphone channels isolated and separate, Buss 1 will carry mike channels 1 and 2; Buss 2 will carry 3 and 4, etc. In the Cuemix software you have to pan mike channel 1 hard left and channel 2 hard right. Doing so causes the 8Pre Channel 1 to appear on the MKIII ADAT 1 and Channel 2 to appear on ADAT 2. If, however, you have not panned to the extremes, audio, in the same proportions, will appear on ADAT 1 and 2. For example: if you have a guitar on Input 1 of the 8Pre, and have the pan pot straight up, the guitar will appear on the MKIII ADAT 1 and 2 inputs equally.

Hope this helps. My previous post covered the instance where the 8Pre is used as a simple converter instead of as an interface.
