828mkIII instr in clipping w/guitar

Post by rga121 »

Is anyone getting clipping when plugging a guitar into the instrument input? The pickups are pretty hot (dimarzio super d) but I'm still a bit surprised. Trim is all the way down and the pad (probably only for mic pre) doesn't seem to help. Turning on the v limit w/ look ahead solves the problem unless I dig in really hard. Is this normal with high output humbuckers?

I have the same problem. All of my electric guitars and bass guitars clip the input with the trim to zero. The input is way too hot.
I hope they can change that with a firmware update.

audio 101:
dont plug anything in with the volume up.
dont turn anything up before you know how loud it will be.
voila!

there are toggles with input settings on the two front inputs on the 828mk3, set them correctly for best results.

the signal hits red when my friends use bass and guitar through them but the signal sounds clean when i record them. its not distorted or harsh like i would think from the red lights. could it be the meter is over sensitive?
good luck

Yes, I have the latest firmware and drivers.
It's not just going into the red on my 828 but also the input in Logic 8.
Motu told me to reinstall the firmware but that just seems to be a standard routine answer. I haven't tried that yet.
Any suggestions?
