Tube emulation plugin?

Post by Dwetmaster »

After answering to post I started to wonder:
Does anyone knows of a tube emulation plugin. GuitarRig or Amplitube would be way overkill. I already have the Vintage Warmer and Massey plugs but they are tape compression/maximizing plugs. I'm not content with the B4II's overdrive emulation and I was looking into a simple tube emulation plug to hook it up to. Granted, I've had great results with VW but it can a CPU hog and I'm not looking for a whole compression thing but simpy a tube emulation with NOTHING else.

Does this exist or is it totally worthless if I have VW?

I downloaded this but haven't had a chance to try it yet so, if it stinks, don't blame me. :) It's free, too:

Softube has a tube emulation plug-in separate from their amp modeling plug-ins.

This is also embedded in their Delay product (recent).

I didn't find the TAL freebie satisfactory and deleted it. I'm sure that's subjective though.

There's also a freebie tape saturation plug-in (not the same thing, of course) from Massey.

He didn't know how to do Audio Units visual support, so it comes up with generic UI.

Yeah like I said, I have the massey plug and it's great but it's more than just Tube emulation. I've discovered the URS plug ( http://www.ursplugins.com/ursSAT.html ) but it looks a bit expensive.

I just tried the TAL tube thingy. I don't like it. It no longer resides on my computer.

Yeah, sorry for the redundant Massey ref -- I'm having a much harder time reading posts these days, when there are large paragraphs involved. For some reason, this is way more of an issue on my work computer than on my iMac at home.

Have you tried Voxengo VArisaturator ?
http://www.voxengo.com/product/varisaturator/

It's not a tube emulator per se, but sounds great.

Nomad Factory Blue Tubes Analog Trackbox - I have used it often and it sounds very
good. Lots of variable control, great GUI. You can download a demo of it:

http://www.nomadfactory.com/products/bl ... index.html

Antares Avox 2 Warm plug-in can be downloaded as a separate product from Antares
site. It's an update of their "Tube" plug-in which I have and it sounds great:

http://www.antarestech.com/products/avox2.shtml

Honestly, if you have Vintage Warmer you have one of the best tube/tape saturator plug-ins
out there. I think there is a Vintage Warmer "Lite" version which you can download if you're a
registered Vintage Warmer owner. It's a little less CPU-heavy.

Here's another one, called 2B (the URL doesn't update as you traverse their site; sorry):

http://www.reign-pro.com/

It's on sale for $99 as part of their mix pack, until midnight tonight. You can download a demo and try it quickly, maybe :-).

They have a free version and a demo of the full version. I use it quite a bit, though I have not tested it with DP6.

+1 for Nomad Factory. I have their Vintage Studio Bundle and I use the Blue Tubes stuff all of the time.

Duy's DaD Valve is an excellent plug. I think it only comes in their everpack bundle which might be a little pricey,

Also there is the Proleveler in DP6 which sounds damn good and very tubey to me.

Based on the LA-2A which is a tube limiter which ran the 6AQ5 tube (one of my all time faves) a combination of that and the preamp in DP could just be what your looking for.
