Can 896 be used to add channels to digi 003r via adat?

Post by qrst468 »

I need to add 8 channels to my Pro tools digi 003r via adat. Would it be possible to do this with a Motu 896? I haven't seen much info on this, which leads me to believe that it is not a common pairing.
Thanks for any insight.

should be ok as long as both are fired up and on separate FW buses. Have the Digi as the clock and the 896 slaved to that ...

question though ... why would you want to do that. If you want 8 more pres for the Digi then just get an 8 input preamp like the presonus range and use the adat out of that into the digi and digi will c 16 inputs.

You can not do this with an 896 Original because it has no standalone routing features. You can do it with an 896HD or an 896mk3 because they feature CueMix DSP or CueMix FX, respectively.

Well, I want to do it because I picked one up for the right price (perhaps before doing enough research!). It is the original, not HD or mkIII. I will experiment with it and see if I can make it work. That is, as soon as the previous owner can transfer his account so I can get drivers!
