828 mk3 nightmare
today i (finally) got a belkin firewire expresscard, i was really hoping that all my problems will end up with this one, but no instead, it obviously getting worse.
im using my 828 mk3 with my laptop stock FW port which is ricoh, i also get random high pitched sounds and audio glitches from time to time, nothing serious, it works.. i purchased a belkin card which has the TI chipset, plugget it in, everything is ok so far. switch off the laptop, connect the 828 to the new FW ports, the unit seems fine, after few seconds, BSOD !!!, ok calm down, remove motu drivers, reinstall, reboot, connect, reboot, BSOD, and the nightmare goes on...
any suggestions? i am really desperate im really tired. why don't MOTU come up with windows rock solid drivers instead of releasing nice stuff that works 1 out ten times...

Try doing a search on "high pitch" or your interface. I think I heard of somebody solving this issue recently. I don't know for sure... I'm a Mac guy.

this thing can happen even with the default buffer size which is 1024! i don't think it's related to buffer in my case. what i don't understand is that most if not all the 282 mk3 users i saw on this forum and on other sites are complaining about the high pitched sounds and the audio dropouts, and nobody seems to know how to solve it or seems to care about it. i dont understand guys, if it's just me, then please someone let me know, because motu support (which is supposed to inform me if my unit is defective or not) is DEAD, so that i can return it asap!
hehe, no im really glad to hear that other people had better luck with it, at least it tells me that this thing has some potential WHEN it works. prob is that this isnt easy to re-create, high pitched and audio drop outs issues are random, and happen without any reason.. might b a irq + fw chipset + os + + + + but again, when you buy a 1000$ interface you expect at least stable operations and some kind of support. this thing is picky as hell when it comes to which computer to work with, and the support is... well i think they are just sleeping and getting salaries at the end of the month.

my mkII usb on vista (apparently xp has the similar issues, so for once im not gonna fully blame windows) is fairly temporamental. audio dropouts happen randamly (mainly when watching a dvd as opposed to producing on ableton). i also get a bsod from time to time, cant repeat when it happens, completely random. often, when going from ableton to using winamp it will happen, or using soulseek and opening a song in winamp. but the most times i can spend hours on ableton without any issues.timizere wrote:yer there are a rediculous amount of people with problems. it would be interesting to see the ratio of probs vs no probs. if i were you i would do a clean windows install on a fresh partition and get the audio drivers on there, then install apps etc 1 by 1 n see what screws things up.
sadly im just gonna live with it. motu r clearly pro-mac. the drivers dont ever seem to improve things, im certain the drivers are at fault - the only fix someone has done is pretty much re-build their pc with components that r effectively fully compatable. on a laptop that makes things tricky. so i figured, the motu 828 is clearly a beast, im gonna wait till my current laptop dies and buy a mac. id rather do that than sell the motu, as the sound quality is amazing, the ports on it are amazing, and its built like a tank. sadly its clearly made to perform how it is supposed to on a mac. and we r stuck with shoddy windows drivers.
word of advice: never ever base an opinion on a product based on magazine reviews. always base them on what ppl on internet forums and ppl with experience say. not once did i eva see it mentioned that the motu 828mkII has issues with windows, and clearly as soon as u long into this forum u can see there are many issues. if i new that i would hav bought somethign else. its like the novation nocturn MIDI controllers - fantastic reviews, award winning product - already complete mixed opinions from the actual users.
Re: 828 mk3 nightmare
which OS are you running? mine is XP 32 SP3. happens also in another laptop with VISTA SP1. let me know if you make any progress, i almost tried everything and don't have anymore force or will to continue debugging.. in fact we should be paid for what we do, spending most of the time in frustration trying to make it work instead of working with it.. MOTU, I HOPE THAT YOU ARE READING THIS AT LEAST, AS IT SEEMS THAT YOUR "TECHLINKS" ARE NEVER READ!

Can't believe it! after more than a month, i got an answer for my techlink, guess what? they want to check what firmware version i have! isnt that a SHAME? what a wonderful support.makes me sick.

you can add me to msn if you like and we can troubleshoot together. i have a few more tricks up my sleeve that im going to try tonight. i stopped posting stuff on the motu tech forums and instead called them directly today.
