DP performance issues 5.11 and 6

I really like the program but I find the performance to be poor compared to all other audio apps. Beach balls, lots of lag while trying different plugins in real time while playing just a few tracks. I am running a 8 core with 6 gigs of ram. On my Mac Book Pro 2 gig I found DP almost unusable especially running native plugins. I could use the program but I had to be very care full in order to have things run smoothly Are other people very happy with DP's performance, please tell.

Can you give us more info it really helps.

Buffer, OS version, plugins ETC ETC ETC.
Creativity, some digital stuff and analogue things that go boom. crackle, bits of wood with strings on them that go twang
