DP and Tiger

Post by cody »

Hey all -

As a lot of you are, I'm excited about the new G5s. I think I'll get the 2.3 with some upgrades, since it's not liquid cooled! Does anybody know about Dp 4.52 and Tiger compatibility? I'm sure MOTU wouldn't tell if they knew, but what do you all think?! :)

Wish they were dual cores, but hey, the 2.3 I bet could be a really nice, stable system!

Cheers,

Cody

From everything I have heard and read, you can expect DP 4.52 to run with Tiger. I remember seeing a thread that they might be putting out a downloadable patch on the day Tiger is released.

From shaneblyth, OSXAudio post

MOTU's response on DP and Tiger looks positive
pasted from an email they just sent me.....

When Tiger officially ships, check our website for any news/updates for our software and hardware. We have been working closely with Apple during Tiger development, and we are not anticipating any compatibility
problems.

Thanks for writing,

I also hear that the new G5s ship with Tiger on it, so if you are getting a new machine watch out and only buy it if you really are ready for tiger! lots of 3rd parties won't be

Why couldn't you buy a new G5 and just install Panther? Any forseeable problems with that plan?

My Tiger notice says I get mine today.

I have a second drive with all my plugs online ready to take the plunge.

I will start with my biggest most difficult session of recent 64 96k audio tracks 2 VI 2 MIDI.

Also 4.52. That will be the deal.

64bit... here we go.

Excellent Gary. Please report back early and often. Same goes to any other brave folks that take the Tiger plunge. Those of us that hang back awaiting reports really appreciate any pre-lim info you can post.

-good luck!

OK

It's not good.

I just tried it on my second drive which was operational with 10.3.9 and DP 4.52 with all the plugs.

After install of 10.4:

DP could not finde core audio
No iLock managment or plugs
No wave ilock or plugs
Bugs in installers of osX would not close.
DP hung open when I tried to chage Stard drives and I had to force quit the machine.

Have to pick up my kid in school so I'll be back later and mess with it some more.

Remember to download the new public beta MIDI and PCI / Firewire drivers if you are using MOTU hardware. MOTU states that they are tested with Tiger and hopefully will ease some of the problems you are having.

DP4.52 (finally) does work with Tiger on my system (powerbook)

Possible solution for users experiencing problems like crash and quitting of DP the moment you hit play.

First look if you've got APE or application manager anywhere on your boot disk BEFORE launching DP in Tiger.

APE is a shell used and installed by various third party utilities like Detour/Audio hijack etc. Erase all traces of it.

Things i tried first:
I fixed permissions, reboot - didn't work
Trashed all preferences, reboot - didn't work
Removed all plugins (incl Motu's), MIDI and audio drivers, reboot - didn't work
Re-installed Dp, fixed permissions, reboot - didn't work
Took a long look at Dp's crash log. It paid of in the end.

What DID work was erasing APE, reboot and re-installed Dp.
Even after erasing Ape Dp crashed so a re-instal of Dp finally nailed it.
It's running fine now :)

I tried the new beta of motu 424 pci and it still did not recognize the 424 card.

Everything else comes up now.

Tips would be appreciated.
