Hey all, I did some searches here and I can't quite find the information I need.
Basically, do MOTU PCI products (I Have a 2408mkIII and a PCI 424 card) support ASIO Direct Monitoring?
I understand MOTU has the CueMix thingy for direct monitoring, which works fine, but can I use ASIO Direct Monitoring to control the levels from my DAW host (Samplitude/Sonar/etc)?
I've gotten it to work, but the outputs drop off if I touch the channel faders on my host, then I have to turn on and off monitoring in my host, blah blah. Basically before I start pulling my hair out troubleshooting this one, I thought I'd ask if or how well MOTU implemented AsioDirectMonitoring.
thanks
marc

You can control the monitor levels and routing of your inputs via ADM if your host app supports it. Sonar currently does not, but many apps do, including all the Steinberg apps. One thing that the built-in monitoring doesn't do on the MOTU gear, is allow you to route or mix the output from the host application (to separate monitor mixes for example). This can be worked-around if you are willing to loop-back a spare output to an input. I have done this with both the S/PDIF and the ADAT ports on the 2408 Mk3.I understand MOTU has the CueMix thingy for direct monitoring, which works fine, but can I use ASIO Direct Monitoring to control the levels from my DAW host (Samplitude/Sonar/etc)?
It sounds like ADM is enabled and working in your host app, but not in the way you expect. Personally, I think CueMix DSP is far more functional than ADM. I have set up a shortcut from Sonar's tools menu to launch CueMix. If you want to use CueMix, it's probably best to disable ADM in your host app to avoid contention & confusion.I've gotten it to work, but the outputs drop off if I touch the channel faders on my host, then I have to turn on and off monitoring in my host, blah blah.
