newb - what sequencer to host ? (WinXP)

Post by Bansaw »

I am really thinking about buying Motu Ethno instrument and Symphonic.

I have a laptop (with a poor sound card)Toshiba 2800.

I have a couple of questions:

1) What sequencer do you reccommend to host Motu (someone mentioned Sonar & Cubasis)?

2) What soundcard do you reccommend ? (Someone told me Indigo PC card was good ---- abt $160)

My laptop is 3.2ghz, 1Gb ram, 80Gb 4200rpm, WinXP SP2
any comments?

What's the Sonar HOME edition 6XL ($209) like? Would that host MOTU equally as well?

for MOTU compatability go with Sonar 6 or 7 producer editions they give you the most bang for your buck and are alot cheaper but you can start with XL and when you upgrade you`ll save money Cakewalk always have great deals for people who already own something of there`s here are some links http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SONARhs6XL/ or http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=700935 also http://www.musicstudiodirect.com/produc ... udio+6+XL/

Does HOME version not perform so well with the Ethno and Symphonic? Is the Producer version much better performace wise or is the difference between the two just some extra functionality that I may not need?
Are you familiar with Home as well as Producer versions?

Sonar current version is 7. You also mentioned version 6. Whats the chance of picking up version 6 at a knockdown price?

Thanks!

you can get sonar 6 for about $100 and home6xl for about $160. I own 6XL,7SE & 7PE i`m not sure about difference in performance but much better tools in PE. you can download 7PE for free 30 day trial here http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/kb20061101.asp also check this page and then the XL exclusives to see if there right for you http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/HomeSt ... atures.asp I guess it depends on what you actually want to be able to do ,whether yoou buy the home or PE .

Thanks, I found a good comparison page for Sonar features:
http://www.pcmusicsupply.com/sonar_3.html

I may well go for the 6XL because it has session drummer 2 and a cut down version of Garritan personal orchestra.

The PE is a lot more expensive than Home 6XL.

I found a website called J&R that does the Home 6XL for $140
