Linking Intel Macbook Pro & G4? Anyone know how?
I would like to run all virtual Instruments on the G4 and DP 5.13 on the Macbook Pro. I've tried finding info on the web but have found nothing that relates directly to this. I'd appreciate any help. I have Mach V 2, Atmosphere, Trilogy, Stylus, Reason 3, Battery 3 and UVI Organ they are all installed on both computers with the execption of Atmosphere and Trilogy not being on the Intel mac.
G4 Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 2MB L3 cache per processor 2GB ram, DP 5.12, OS 10.4.11 Intel Macbook Pro,MIDI timepiece, 828, Mbox2 Pro, KRK K-Rok, M-Audio Pb-5,Waves Masters, Waves Gold, Stylus RMX,MachFive,Battery3, Atmosphere, Trilogy, Reason, Retro Organs, JV-1080, Trinity,MPC 2000XL
It depends on how you want to do it. There are several ways.
In Audio-MIDI you could use the MIDI network feature. Go to this link and look under "Core MIDI Network"

If you are using your Built-in Audio on the G4, just run that into your audio interface like any other audio device. If you want more than two channels, you'll have to get a separate interface for your laptop.
MusicLab's MIDI Over LAN-CP may be something you'll want to look into. It goes a lot further than Apple's Core MIDI Network does:

I don't know how well the LAN network is working on a G4, but another way to do it would be to get a small USB MIDI interface and connect the two machines the old fashioned way. It's reliable and it works as well as any other normal MIDI connection. That's what I use-- and I've never had any latency, dropouts, or sync problems.
Another intersting site is Tweakheadz Lab. They give a nice overview of the concepts and princples:
