828mk 1 firewire problems

Post by Gonz »

Hi all
My first post here :)
Ive just brought a no go 828mk1 that im trying to repair.
The unit all powers up but the firewire isnt working.
Ive replaced the firewire chip tonight which hasn't helped
It has tryed to work once as windows "found new hardware" but the machine slowed to crawl and i had to abort the install.
Does anyone have a close up high res picture or could take one of the PCB around the firewire / spdif coxial sockets as ive noticed something looks likes it missing, like a cap or a resistor.
I have no service data so im at a loss at the moment..
Thanks in advance for any wisdom anyone might have on such matters.
I dont think this one is going to come easily somehow...
Cheers

Hi:

I have the same problem.I will try to change the female firewire conection, that could be broken because of years working.Sounds simple, but perhaps is the solution. Don`t you think?

Good look

Hi
Always a possibilty.
Im pretty sure the socket on the one i have here is ok.
I measure what looks like the correct signals on the firewire buss around the socket when its connected. Also theres continuity through onto the board ok.
Just a lack of activity...
Would you be up for taking a high res photo of your pcb around the firewire chip and the spdif area?
I think i have a missing component but im not sure.
Cheers
