Not to mention he'd become great friends with Barny.

According to the prelimiar poll, UnicorNation seems to remain the favorite so far.

i like the name, as KGdrum pointed out, nobody knows what im message boarding about when i come here. but maybe that's selfish, not wanting the masses to know this is THE board for DP/OSX users. growth is good. changing the name would help with that.
why would i want to skin a cat?

Actually, that would be a great name for a killer vintage preamp plugin.

Wouldn't it? We ought to sell the idea to Manley.

Interestingly, Manly is run by a woman. She might actually like unicorns. She calls herself MzTube, and is known as the Manley Tube Queen. See what comes to mind. I mean... regarding unicorns, of course.

I like the idea of a skin redesign as well as the move to phpBB 3.0 -- however, I voted to keep the name as it is. Here's why:

UnicorNation is famous among musicians -- and I don't mean just DP users. I have see countless references to it on many different forums. It has a reputation. And a good one at that!

James, UnicorNation is something you can be proud of. All of us can, in fact. I argue that until MOTU changes it's corporate name, it would be a CRYING SHAME to change the name of this site.

Remember "New Coke?" Well, I'm originally from Atlanta GA, so I REMEMBER! What a disaster that was -- unless of course, some genius had planned the entire "Coke Classic" campaign from the very beginning. My point is, when you have a product (to continue this rather weak analogy) that has name recognition and a solid reputation among those in the industry, then why change it? I realize UnicorNation is NOT a commercial enterprise, of course, but I'm sure you can understand what I'm talking about here.

This is not about living in the past, hanging on to the past, resisting change, etc., etc. UnicorNation has history... roots... and we are all building on that... each of us contributing in his or her (I know you must be out there) own way. It makes no sense to me to change the name of the website just because MOTU has decided to distance itself from the Unicorn logo. It's YOUR SITE, James! And... well, it's known ALL OVER THE WEB as

UnicorNation!

I wouldn't even CONSIDER changing it, if it were up to me.

Stiefelmusik pretty much summed my thoughts up.

IMHO, one of the reasons we lose perspective these days is the all-too-prevalent rebranding and renaming of things.
The last 2000 years is complicated enough, but the renaming of important centres of influence, sometimes 3, 4 or more times, interferes with one's perspective of timelines and indeed spacial identification (geographically).

Yamaha already has a MOTIFator site, and I also agree with others that these sorts of suggestions lack backbone in that they're pandering to the latest trends.
This isn't a crakz 4 u 2 day 4 ur pee cee-style site, and those kids can knock themselves out as far as I'm concerned, as long as they speak English here.
That reminds me - we're all relics here anyway.

Seriously, I'm 100%, thoroughly against a name change.
This has nothing to do with holding on to things, and everything to do with identity, IMHO.
I'm not posting much these days, but this is truly important to me; I'd not like to see one shred of our Unicness diluted.
In this loyalty-lacking and instant-gratification-oriented world, are we not amongst the few who're fighting the tide of ignorant, insensitive and immature behaviour?

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack

Pretend I've placed your favourite quote here

I like Motunation

Motu : our software/hardware

"Tun"es : what we do (ok, cheesy)

Nation : "a large aggregate of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory [in cyberspace]

ok maybe it's all a bit cheesy.

are you motued.

I do indeed love unicornation as a name and would be sad to let go of it I'm afraid.

However If James indeed wants/needs to change it, I'll just have to get over it and have lots of talks to the shrink about it I suppose.
