I have been trying to load the firmware update for my 828mk3, the loader sits there and says I need to power on the 828mk3 while holding down the PAGE button. I have done this, but I can never get the loader to work even after this has been done. Anyone know the secret hand shake that MOTU hasn't released anywhere.
I am running Vista with the service pack1, not sure if thats the problem.

This is not meant as a rude comment, but is it really neccesary to upgrade firmware... if it works..? I am asking only since I am in the process of buying the mk3... Plan to run it on XP though... i must say - really hate vista, not that I have any reasons to assume it's the problem... just saying... hates the way they all stash it up... why not just keep simple... if they want a 3D desktop, they should make it like one of the systems in Johnny Mnemonic... awesome... I would get a new hobby - "desktop surfing" 
Well to answer your question, I had my system on XP and the software for cuemix fx on the 828 quit working, and no one at MOTU was able to come up with a solution.
My system came with Vista and at the time Vista was not fully supported by Cubase 4 which is what I use, so I switched to XP. Cubase now fully supports Vista, I have 4 gigs of ram and Vista supports that, xp will only support something close to that with a /3GB switch, otherwise your only using 1.5 gigs of ram.
I had hoped to do a dual boot of XP and Vista to really see first hand which worked better, but because I was using a system restore disc I ran into an entire days worth of problems, and eventually gave up and simply loaded Vista to give it a shot.
So I go to the motu site to see what they have and there is a firmware update for the 828mk3, it upgrades the hardware on the 828mk3 doesn't have •••• to do with Vista or Xp.
And finally to answer your question I am on my third 828Mk3 so no it does not always work right, and if there is a firmware update usually that means they are trying to fix something that isn't right in the first place.
Get back to me when you have bought the 828mk3 and everything is running fine!

Well I am pissed off. I have 2x 828mk3 and have updated the drivers ,just released a couple of weeks ago. I have also updated to latest service pack for vista. I however still have this common issue of not being able to update firmware. Why is this so hard ?
I am so frustrated with it. I have near had these units for a year and no use yet. I just want all glitches and bugs that have been corrected in firmware 1.06 to be on my devices.
I have tried so many things but there seems to be no posts that mention these latest drivers and procedures.
I also want advice on what software to run it with. Is nuendo a good option? The old cubase sx3 I was using with my 828mk1 seemed gr8 . Help guys..

Don't know why the firmware 1.06 has a date of Aug 2011, its older than that, I've ran 1.06 for quite some time. Looking at the last two entrieson problem I did a little experiement. At first I had the same problem as others even after updating the drivers. So I ran the process in reverse after the drivers were loaded, I started up the 828mk3 as suggested for updating the firmware and left it in that condition while I rebooted my computer. After it came back up I launched the loader and it had no problem updating the firmware.
