I just upgraded from a 2408 mkIII to an 828mkIII.
On my 2408 there was a Phones Volume and Main Out Volume similar to on the 828. But on the 2408, I could easily raise and attenuate the Volume of each independently with ease. So for instance, I could turn my main speakers all the way down and still monitor myself playing guitar through a microphone through the headphone out.
I can not for the life of me figure out how to assign those two knobs to work in the same manner. When I turn the Main Volume know down, it also turns the Phones volume down. I have gone into CueMix and tried to assign things differently, but the only thing I can do is literally turn off the speakers and listen only through headphones, which is fine if I am recording myself. But if I am recording a vocalist and need to hear my speakers just a little and for the headphones to have full volume, I am unable to do so.
Furthermore, even when I have the volume of both on full, the headphone volume is very low.
Please help
828 mkIII independent volume control.

Hello, I have just found exactly the same thing! the headphone output is dependent on the master output so you cant turn your main speakers down without turning down the headphone output.
There seem to be a fair few problems with the main output volume control and the monitor routing within the cuemix software. From what I have read else where on this forum I believe MOTU are releasing a Firmware/ software upgrade if you are prepared to wait!
I'm seriously thinking of taking mine back to the shop!
Cheers Oli

thanks
Good to know I'm not totally crazy. Seems like a huge oversight, that is not typical of MOTU...lately. My only other option is going with the Ensemble I thought of getting originally. OR getting a Volume know like the Mackie Big Knob. I hope that update comes soon.
