I've been using a presonus firewire interface and there are serious issues with the onboard firewire and gforce video card-- So I'm looking at buying a motu 8pre. Does anyone know of any problems with compatability of the new macbook pros with the motu interface?

chadwyatt,
i sadly don't have the MOTU 8pre but I do have the MOTU 828mk3 and I haven't had any problems with the firewire interface connected to my new macbook pro. Everything seems to work fine with the connection.
What kind of problems are you having with the video card?

Hi,
I have a 1 y.o. MacBook Pro 17"/2.33GHz/3G RAM/160G HD running OS-X 15.5.2 with an 8pre.
I haven't had a single problem with the 8pre so far and I plan to buy another one later.
I don't know about the 08 MacBook Pros, however, I would think that if they use the same chipset for the firewire (and I see no reason why they would have needed to change) I would think it should work fine.

Problems with motu and the new macbook pro's?
Hello misterhemi,
Please excuse the intrusion. According to your profile, Your primary computer is a Macbook Pro. I am looking at the new MacBook Pro, upgrading from my Dual 2GHz G5. I will primarily use DP & Machfive. It seems that you are using various VI's. How would you rat the performance of your MacBoook Pro. I guess I should be asking, Are you satisfied with having a Laptop as opposed to a Desktop?
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
RJ

Hi,
I don't use many VI's... I have played with ImpOSCar, Morphine and Cameleon 5000.
They seem to run fine with no problems, however, I pretty much use hardware instead of VI's.
Otherwise I have been very happy with the MacBook Pro. I used to swear by desktops but this is the first laptop I like better than my desktop.
That could change if I somehow got an 8 core Mac Pro
but that won't happen anytime soon.
I eventually plan to buy more 8pres but haven't had any problems at all with the one I have. I was reading here that some people did have problems when daisy-chaining multiple interfaces but a Firewire hub solved the problem(s).
