old iBook clamshell and USB audio interface

Post by artfarm1 »

I want to use an old iBook clamshell G3 just for using DP's Polar .... nothing else. It currently has OSX 10.2.8 on it, and is the 366mhz model.

Problem: I just got a Behringer USB audio interface, the UCA202. It gets recognized as a device (USB Codec) and the output will work, but the Mac won't recognize any input.... it shows up in the setup and in my DP and Polar windows, but the Mac Audo/MIDI setup says that there is no input setting for this device.

Does an iBook clamshell need to run OSX Panther?
Does anyone know of a USB audio interface that will work with my machine?
Is this a Behringer USB problem?

Thanks all.

Not surprisingly, no responses to your post. We're not being insensitive, but frankly, NO ONE is using clamshell iBook - and the speed is - well, fast for its day, but probably way too slow to do any real productive work, even with Polar.

You might get away with Tiger if you can find the install disks. You won't be able to run Leopard. As for USB audio, you might try something as simple as iMic (I think that's what it was called). As for your other hardware, you should check for Panther drivers (good luck).

You don't say what version of DP you are using, but I'd guess around 4.75 at best. Don't expect too much out of that setup. It might be that Polar will run OK, I just don't know.

Thanks...... yeah, it's an oldy, but I just want to use it for some live looping..... nothing fancy.

Just want to know what USB interface would work and be recognized. Right now, the system will play out on the Behringer USB, but the system won't recognize any 'input' settings.

I put an old DP 4.0 on it, as it has 'Polar' built into it.... which is all I want to use on this thing. The iBook OSX is ver. 2.8.

Do you think that OSX 2 is the problem? That I might need OSX 3 to recognize most USB interfaces?

I know the Behringer UCA 202 works on an iBook G4 running DP 4.61 and OSX 4.11.

Thanks for any help and ideas to all.
