DP Error ID = - 193: Saving problem

Post by tronkinrubas »

Hi,

I can't save my DP project: "An error occurred while writing to the disk. The file xxx was not saved. ID = - 193. Try to save your file on another disk or folder, or with a different name."

Obviously, the advise given by DP doesn't work. I also checked all the audio files and there is nothing missing. What else can I do?

Thanks,
Tronk

Sounds like a permissions error to me.

Try repairing permissions on your start-up drive and see if that helps:

Using Mac OS X, how do I repair permissions, and what does that do?

Or are you saving to an external drive? Then set up "ignore permissions" on that drive. See here:

Setting permissions for disks, folders, and files

I'm gonna put my horns on here - because this has happened to me - fortunately not often..

and I DO have ignore permissions on my audio drive -

it usually happens if I get called away for an hour or 2 and I forget to close the project...

Ofcourse I save very often so it's not biggie..

quitting DP usually solves it - of course you DO loose unsaved work!!!

I find that ths happens to me occasionally, erm rarely but it usually can be remedied.

I swap over to an empty chunk and hit save and it usually works.

To tronkinrubas:
Try the "Verify Disk" in Disk Utility. If there's a problem, you'll have to boot from the OS X DVD and run Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk (or you could do it in Terminal, booting with Single User Mode (Command+S) and typing "fsck -fy" and then "reboot").

This happened to one of my students once and I found out he had a problem in the disk structure...

To richard8199:
Since it's the same error code, you could try the procedure above.

I am not able to open a project from my flash drive, but I am able to open the same project from my hard drive. I'm getting the error -193 as well. I do not have the option to change Ownership & Permissions on the flash drive (it is set to "You can read and write" and there are no other options to choose, nor can I de-select the current option of "You can read and write").

I did verify the disk and repair permissions...all okay. But, I still can not open a project from the flash drive.

Advice?

This permissions-related error started within DP 4.5. DP is the only mac program that I have seen this with, and it developed overnight with the release of 4.5 I would have to call this a motu bug, and not at all related to the OS.

To be certain that it is not a permissions error, you could try to use it in a root account. The root account is the "master account", has all the privileges on, so it is a good troubleshooting tool. It is not activated by default for security reasons, so you should not use it as your normal account.

Root account activation instructions here:
http://stringfoo.com/tag/enable-root/

If the error keeps on appearing, it is certainly not a permissions problem.
Maybe a disk problem? Verify Disk with Disk Utility.

According to Mac OS error codes, it IS a permissions error. The question is why DP sets it off.

In addition to running DP 5.12/OS 10.4.11 on my iMac, I also run DP 4.12/OS 10.2.8 on my laptop. Interestingly enough, my older DP 4.12 Projects open just fine off the flashdrive on the laptop. They do NOT open on my iMac (error message).

I obviously can not open a DP 5.12 Project on my laptop, being that the laptop is only running DP 4.12. But, with this info, I'm assuming this error has something to do with OS 10.4.11?

If this info is helpful to anyone, and you have further advice, thanks!

This happened to me a couple of times! I solved my problems by restarting Digital Performer regularly. Like in 2 and 2 hours, or even less.

it is a good question.

and quitting and restarting usually makes it go away...

I wonder if it's related to the crash on save I know and love..

You think they'll fix it in 6? (hahaha! )

Try waiting twenty seconds after you see the message and then save again.

I've seen this message when I have executed "Save" at the same time I've hit stop playback. In every case just waiting and then saving again was successful.

Give it a try...

Error 193

Post by johnleesanders »

I'm having the same issue,
working on a movie score, a large file, about 14 MB, with tons 3 kontakt
setups, eastwest orchestra, etc.

I backed up about 5 versions of the file, and they are all corrupt, coming up with error 193, I tried opening it as a MIDI file, but that didn't work.

I also tried backing up to another drive and still get the same message.

this file had a 45 minute video attached to it.
