"An error occurred while reading from the disk. The file was not loaded."

DP crashed on exit while last saving the project, now it won't open. Other projects still open normally, though. It looks like the app is ok.

You may have a corrupted audio file. Remove all the audio files from their folder and try starting the project without them. If it opens the task then will be to figure out which file is bad.

does this mean that the error IDs are MacOS-specific, not DP-specific?

tried removing both the audio and analysis files, but it still wouldn't open. Copied the folder to a different drive, also no luck. Looks like the DP document is corrupted.

i was saving often, but i hadn't backed this one up for a week or so. lost a great deal of editing, arranging and drum performances. lesson learned.

thanx for your replies!

cheers

That is my understanding, yes :)

Please correct me someone if indeed it is NOT the case.

I've definitely seen this before and it was a corrupted file issue.

Just for laughs, (or tears).. try opening DP and putting it into MIDI mode only, then open the file. See what happens.

Also, you might want to try getting rid of the undo files and trying to open as well.

Don't throw it away. Wait for DP6 and see if it will open it. That's happened before. A corrupted file would not open, but a later version opened it. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that possibility, but... just for kicks, it's worth a try.

And try to create a new project and use the "Load" command to import the sequence from the "probably corrupt" file. Sometimes the sequence information can be recovered. It happened to me a few times. Give it a shot!

tried opening it with DP in "MIDI only" mode, but that didn't work either (clever idea, though).

i made a New project, then successfully "Loaded" the sequence i wanted with all the new edits, and everything was right there, pretty much intact. (only the track i/o's and colors were different). :D

thanks a million, guys--

Glad to hear that, proton. Sometimes DP seems to have a tendency to auto-destroy its own files...
