DP and Pluggo in Mac os 10.5 Leopard

Post by nannygrimshaw »

happy new year everyone!

any pluggo users out there; anyone got pluggo to work with DP in leopard?

DP and altiverb are fine; pluggo works in DSP-Quattro, but DP crashes on launch, now that i have installed pluggo on my leopard drive.

before you ask; DP is totally fine with pluggo 3.6.1 in 10.4.11.

anyone else had this experience? any tricks?

i have posted on cycling74's forum too.

these compatibilities issues are frustrating because neither developer will ever take the rap... and i really want to try my projects out in leopard!

DP and Pluggo in Mac os 10.5 Leopard

hmm, then i think you're lucky.
i've uninstalled altiverb and pluggo, then reinstalled pluggo. still no joy. virtually nothing else installed on my leopard system.
i get an error message about pluggo and a suggestion to contact the developer [cycling74]. dp runs through AU checks, gathers information, gathers info for all the built-ins, then crashes [disappears].
i think it may be unrelated, but i think pluggo is SO OLD NOW [cycling74, you listening?] that it's shipping with really old Pace antipiracy extensions.
could it be because my leopard is installed on an external SATA drive [external SATA 1, 1.5Gbs]? doubt it.
alles ist schweindreck!

I believe cycling74 is in the midst of doing a major overhaul of Max which I believe is the underlying architecture of pluggo.
I do know some of the older freeware pluggos thrown out on the net can
cause pretty big stability issues. I tossed mine out long ago.
But yeah..honestly don't know why mines working and yours isn't.
Wish I could be of more help

DP and Pluggo in Mac os 10.5 Leopard

in the hope that someone will chip in; i will carry on this thread!
not using any 3rd party pluggo's; this is the virgin 3.6.1, on a virgin leopard 10.5.1, with nothing added [organic free range?].
i had to make a big choice about using 3.6.1 a while ago because i had some lovely juicy 3rd party pluggos in 3.5.4 which ceased to function in 3.6.1. for no apparent reason, i must say; resented losing beloved weird pluggos, but found some more for 3.6.1.
i am talking to cycling74 [responsive] and motu [so far unresponsive] but still nowhere.
anyone else got ideas?
although this is all v reminiscent of the early days of 'tiger'..

so i am officially talking to myself here..

sdfalk; are you using a G5?

i asked cycling74 to be honest with me and tell me if others were having problems; they said that everyone was fine.

however, their last reply to my frustrated rantings stated that there seemed to be an issue with pluggo on G5's in leopard. so after multiple reinstalls of everything and much swearing and progress bars, they admit i may be wasting my time until someone updates. i would have preferred openness upfront, which would have saved me time. i'll not use pluggo in leopard for the time being. obviously.

i have to say that motu seem too ready to blame other developers/manufacturers when you contact them with an issue; a comment i've seen on other threads.

DP and Pluggo in Mac os 10.5 Leopard

hmmm,

just when i thought i might be getting closer to an explanation, if not a solution.

this is what c74 said:
<<I'm so sorry you are still having difficulty. Unfortunately, we not yet finished evaluating Mac OS 10.5, aka Leopard. As with any new OS, you are advised to tread cautiously if you are considering updating. At some later date we shall publish full details of our compatibility. Until that time use of our software on Leopard is unsupported.

I can tell you that Pluggo will run with the latest PACE installers. I can also tell you that people have had trouble running our software on Leopard on a G5. Unfortunately you are wading into a territory that we have yet to completely test>>

oh well, i have given up for the moment; i'll make new leopard versions of projects with no pluggos, then add them after an update. p'shaw!

hi nannygrimshaw

i'm having the exact same issue on a brand new macbook pro running os 10.5 (leopard). when pluggo is installed dp cannot load the audio engine and is otherwise "broken" (no commands work, i have to force quit it, etc.). when i remove the pluggo component from my components folder, dp runs fine.

i contacted c74 about this today, we'll see what they tell me.

hi jts3k

thanks for your input and at least for making me feel i'm not the only unlucky s.o.b!

fwiw; my short-term solution/compromise has been to install pluggoruntime 3.6.1 and all the compatible 3rd party pluggos. they all seem to work.

not quite the real thing [i love pluggo!] but it gives me a fix of madness before the full insanity is restored to me...

regards

I am running Max/MSP as well as plugo jr on 10.5.2/Intel with no issues aside from the usual quirks.
Dp5.13 and DP6.01 + OSX.4.11 and OSX.5.5, various Intel and PPC towers desktops and Powerbooks...
