Hi

MasterWorks EQ included with the DP is a good EQ.

This is good free limiter:

I have to admit, after using Digital Performer for over four years and having lots of plug-in EQs at my disposal, I still reach for the MOTU Masterworks EQ. It's my #1 EQ of choice, and it's spectrum display has taught me a lot about EQ in general.

Is your Mac Mini PPC or Intel?

These will be an affordable and amazing add-on for DP in 2008: http://www.masseyplugins.com/index_v2.html?page=news . I plan on loading up on these as soon as they come out. They all get rave reviews on the Tape Op Messageboard from Pro Tools folks, especially the CT4 compressor plug-in.

For Compression, I personally use the Nomad Factory Blue Tubes stuff and the Waves RenComp on every mix that I've done for the past two years.

Sonalksis Essentials Bundle. Pricey, but, well, essential. These are on every track of mine that needs EQ, Comp or gating, unless I need a specifically different flavor.

Cheaper alternative that is almost as good:

Waves Musician's II Bundle. (That's Musician's "TWO" bundle...number one is a little different.) This includes Renaissance EQ, RenComp and two specialty compressors (Axe and Vox) that are very good. Plus also includes Doubler (a mindblowingly useful plug) and Supertap, which blows the MOTU delay out of the water. Whether or not you get the Sonalksis, with Doubler, Supertap and the Renaissance plugs this one's still a no brainer, especially since you can get it for about $150 i.e. here or here... I use these plug all the time.

:D :D :D

MW EQ in my book is pretty good, but not nearly as clean and smooth as Sonalksis, especially in the highs. If you end up with the Waves RenEQ only (and not the Sonalksis), you'll find you'll use MW EQ for cleaner more sterile sound, and RenEQ for a rounder, more old-fashioned vibe.

You can demo both Sonalksis and Waves, Sonalksis I *think* is a time-limited demo, iLok is required for Waves.

Metric Halo Channelstrip. Although not as nice-looking as some more recent plugins, this one is still my number one. And yes, Masterworks EQ is fantastic.

+1 for Channel Strip or a cheaper alternative that sounds nice is the WaveArts TrackPlug.

MW EQ is imho as good as anything out there, and free.

Compressor: try the Fabfilter Pro-C. I got this a couple months ago and, except for occasional use of RenComp, I now use Pro-C for *all* compression tasks, including on the mix. It's that good. And it does a wicked stereo widening effective on tracks and the whole mix too (if you want it to)

I'm going crazy. I check his site everyday in anticipation. I want the CT4 so I don't have to spend 150 bucks on the UAD-1 LA3A plugin.

If you can stomach Waves as a company, the Musicians Bundle is the way to go. Use MWEQ for EQ, and RenComp for compression. Ren Comp is a great and versatile plug, and it can teach you a lot about compression. Very cheap. Sonalksis, URS etc are good but very expensive. Same goes for Sonnox.

Or switch to a DAW that includes a decent compressor. I mean, c'mon already MOTU! Give us the new MWComp! MWEQ is such a tease! Finish off the suite!

INdeed times a thousand. I tried to use there compressor yesterday and it just doesn't work very well (maybe it did in 96) and it doesn't sound good at all.

Update to MW Limiter is sorely needed as well and please don't get me started on the everb the most embarrassing reverb outside of the old logic silver verb I've ever heard. UNUSABLE.

I got a feeling the next V of DP will be a ripper tho
