I'm interested in getting a Mac 8 Core machine for DP

Is DP5 optimized for such a computer? Also, can I use my MKII/ PCI424 with that computer?

Check this thread for some honest musings from grimepoch and Monkey Man:

But, from all reports regarding DP on the 2007 models (8 Core), things seem to be working fine.

Yes, you *can* user your mkII (2408, I presume) however- make sure that your PCI-424 is a PCIe424 and not a PCI-424 or a PCIx-424 used on PPC Macs. MOTU will upgrade older cards to PCIe for $295.

Frodo's spot on, as always, zonamusic.

FWIW, and if it makes you feel any better, I'm doing my best to ignore the hype and speculations and am counting on MOTU to fully exploit the machines.
For one thing, they've always done it in the past, AFAICT.
Also, considering that 3 of the 4 available CPU configurations involve 8 cores, it should be safe to make this assumption; MOTU would't want to ignore 75% of the top-of-the-line Mac offerings, you'd think.

I'll post with my decidedly ungeeky impressions as soon as I can, but the machine is at least 5-10 days away, 10 days being the official Australian BTO wait.
Bottom line - take the plunge man, 'cause if MOTU whacks out on this one we'd have a whole lot more to worry about - the future of DP, MachFive, MSI, Ethno and our MOTU interfaces, for instance.

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack
