No offends, I just gave my 2 cents, and yeah, free does always have a certain value, I can't deny that.

Oh... no offense taken! The funny thing about these plugs, is there are times when you may want some cheesy flange or phase or something funky and something like that fits the bill. It isn't often, but hey... like you said... what do you want for $0.00 and change?

Well I finally managed to break through the logjam and downloaded Independence Free, but I'm having trouble installing it. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong, and/or what I'm missing? (Other than brain cells) :)

1. I downloaded and expanded 3 files:
Independence Free 2.0.0.dmg
Independence Free Sound Library.zip
YT Key Manager OS X.dmg

2. I put all 3 together on MacIntosh HD in a folder called "Independence Free".

3. I ran the YT Key Manager Installer.

4. I tried to launch IF via its icon in the Apps folder, and got the Basic Path prompt:
Image

5. I navigated through to the content files, and got this:
Image

6. At this point my brain fried. There is no file/folder called "layer sets" as per the dialog. I tried all the possible alternative paths I could think of. Same result.

7. I remember seeing a note on the website to the effect that the YT Key Manager software was required to run the Mac version. I clicked the Key Manager icon at the bottom of the system preferences window, and having no idea what I was doing, I got this:
Image

8. At this point, I'm basically snookered. I have no idea where to go from here.

Any clues/advice/solutions gratefully accepted.

Thanx guys,

Geoff

Re: Yellow Tools

I'm not sure it is worth the trouble, but the Basic path is installed on the Mac HD by default. Make sure your .ytif files are in Independence Free Basic Path>image files. I did not do any Key Manager configs, just installed it in the same directory as the standalone. Maybe you need to do a restart. Clicking on the Key Manager preference is not necessary, it just takes you back to the YT website where it can't distinguish between the paid and free versions.

I have to admit, they did not make installation very easy. Maybe the German version is easier.

Hi

The Independence Free Basic Path folder contains the image files folder.

The Independence Free Content 1 folder that contains the .ytif files must be placed
inside the image files folder.

After doing that I just installed the YT Key Manager OS X.dmg. I didn't run it at all and
the Independence Free works fine.

Yes. The download site and the installation are weird.

Thanks guys. Captain Dopey didn't notice the YT Basic Path folder, and even if I had, there's no way I'd have known where to place the content files. It's working now, although at the moment it's only installed on my MacBook. I'll put it on the studio computer this evening. Cutty, you seemed less than enthusiastic about IF. What was the problem? What did you think of it Jari?

Not really a problem, but I was disappointed that I couldn't use other audio files in the workstation, and the sound library, while very good, was rather limited. I thought the Bass samples were excellent, and the Percs were very good too, but I would prefer more symphonic patches...at least a few strings. The FX are GREAT, but I don't see any way of modifying the Origami Reverb impulses. Does anyone know how to use sidechains in the plug version?

After adding a few layers while a MIDI file is playing, the envelope generator locks up and starts playing stuck MIDI notes (sound familiar?) and the only way to peace is to shut it all down and start all over. Overall, a good freebee, but I'm not sure it was worth all the aggravation in the download process.

The sample library compared to its size is not that amazing.
It is quite basic sounding.

Maybe this is supposed to get interested customers for their other products.

I didn't get stuck MIDI notes though.

It's a demo plug-in to show peeps how their real product works, and sounds. The bass samples, and the ac. guitar samples are excellent and there is also kind of a "ballad" electric piano where the dynamics are the best I have ever seen, hooked it up to my MBK-1000 and got totally stunned by the feeling I got from it, it was like being Stevie for a moment there.

The rest of the sounds where good quality as well, but not that useful to me, though it was kind of interesting with the latin/flamenco percussion instruments, I've never quite seen that before in sample libraries.

Soniccouture's Brush Set is now a free download!

Post by spitfire31 »

Hi guys,

Just got a message from Soniccouture in my mailbox ••“ their very nice brushed drumset is now a free download at <www.soniccouture.com/pages/freestuff.htm>.

Programs for Battery 2 & 3, and Kontakt 2 and 3(!) are included (none for Mach 5, I'm afraid). CU and room mics are tweakable from the K2 GUI as well.

BTW, while not free but very reasonable at GBP 49, their new Hang Drum is really intriguing. <www.soniccouture.com/pages/hang.php#>

If it were easy, anybody could do it.

Thank you, cuttime; I appreciate this plug 'cause DP doesn't have a convo 'verb yet.

Also, it's good to see that the developer is persisting with it.
From what I'd gathered previously, he wasn't that keen and required pecuniary incentives in the form of donations.
