The thing that gets me is that the audience eats it all up anyway! How much was the ticket price that night?

As long as Eddie does his scissor kick when they sing the word jump it's OK.

Wha... there's a message in the movie window that says, "We're sorry, this video is no longer available."

I was in the process of loading it up to play right through...
Bummer. Is it just me, or is it gone? :?

I had the same problem the other day, as I had to wait until I got home in the evening to watch it, and by then word had spread and the site was getting too many hits. After getting the error message you got, I at first thought they had gotten a "cease and desist" order, but when I checked back at 1am it was up again, it all its glory.

By then, I had heard so much about it that I expected the worst, so was quite shocked when the actual video exceeded all of my expectations. Eddie seemed so pleased with himself while he played out of tune with the screwed-up backing tracks that he kept stage front and centre and dug in rather than pulling back to something that might have sounded remotely musical given the context.

As someone else said here or elsewhere, I guess it really is just about the visuals after all :-).

Here's the thing...............this is only a big deal because of the technology we live with today. I'm sure any number of very talented acts had a bad gig now and then back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. It's just that back then, you didn't have people with cell phone cameras capturing the moment and posting it on YouTube for the world to see over and over again.

I saw VH on the 1984 tour and DLR was so drunk that he couldn't even remember the lyrics to most of the songs, let alone sing on key. My wife saw them in 1982 on the Diver Down tour and said the same thing. I saw them in 1995 with Sammy on the Balance tour and had to admit it was lackluster at best. Point being that people seem to want to make fun of this fiasco mainly as a way of saying "told you so, they're too old to be doing this" Reality is that VH has always been sort of a mediocre live band........honestly......at least based on my personal experience........the best live performance I have seen them do was the live video from New Haven in 1985 on the 5150 tour.

Don't get me wrong, I cut my guitar teeth on VH records, and love their music tremendously, but as a live band, I have yet to see much from them that impresses me.

To me, a VH concert is a lot like a Jimmy Buffet concert.....you don't go to see a stellar performance by an incredible live band....you go for the "total experience", and most of the audience is 5 sheets in the wind before the first note comes off the stage.

All that said, that video was a pretty hideous listening experience!!!!

Yeah, but you know, we've all been there. Starting a song with a guitar that is tragically out of tune, broken a string on the first line, overloaded the circuit breakers in the joint mid song, etc....You just gotta soldier on and make the best of it.

I know we've all been there. I once had my roadies, on the last night of a tour, put double sided gaffer tape on my kick and HH pedals, talc on my drum heads, party-poppers on the cymbals and pics of naked ladies on all my electronic stuff! - first I realised was when I stuck to the pedals, 8 counts from the start of song!!!
My comment that it's tragic is rooted in the two ways I'm looking at it. The technology at the gig causing this, with the bands' inability to say STOP! Start again! ie. Showing some respect. Also the fact that, as Resonant Alien eludes to, we are spending time knocking this because we can. Along with all other crimes against music, this should simply be forgotten not held up as spectacle IMHO.

Does this mean you were charging $200 a head?

No, that's more like what the band got paid for the week ($200 per member). Of course, back then my rent was $175 a month and I felt rich. :-) Not like now where I make may thousands of dollars a month and still feel broke all the time.
