problem with m-audio firewire solo in os 10.4

Post by guitarsark »

since i upgraded to 10.4 i am having this problem with my m-audio interface
when i open a file in itunes, or listen to something on the internet, or even listen to a cd. when the music first starts playing it starts late, stops for a second and then continues. i have never had this problem before with my firewire solo. i have tried plugging into different firewire jacks on my computer. if i change my sound settings to internal speakers on my computer this doesnt happen so i know it has something to do with the m-audio piece. it also didnt happen with os 10.3. i have downloaded the latest driver. i have dowloaded, trashed, and reinstalled the latest driver.
any ideas??

My experience with M-Audio firewire is to install the FireWire_OSX_1.6-1174.dmg driver (FW410 here) and forget all "upgrades" after that.

Every time the OS gets bumped up a notch, M-Audio FW drivers get screwed. THIS was my big concern about the x.4.x upgrade. I stayed at 10.4.9 and will remain there until leopard (or some necessity requires the upgrade).

That is why threads like this:

http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23660

are deceiving. For us M-Audio FW users, the beautiful world of x.4.x does not exist.

I've cross pollinated this to the other thread as well...

so all hell broke loose and i had to bring my mac in for service. i'm running os x 10.4.10 and still having the same problem with my m-audio firewire solo. i am going to call m-audio tuesday as i cannot seem to find a solution to this. i have tried downloading the previous drivers with no luck. with os 10.5 coming out soon i would certainly hope m-audio would get this fixed

I have FireWire_OSX_1.6-1174.dmg on disk but I'm curious why you couldn't download it. A call to M_Audio might be helpful, but in the end, I think you'll have to use the earlier driver or drop back to osx.4.9.

I will NEVER buy another M-Audio Fire device.

You have to delete ALL M-Audio components first. Do searches for "M-Audio" and also "MAUDIO" and delete everything (unless you have additional M-Audio stuff not related to FireWire audio.

Restart. Empty the trash. Repair permissions. Install the driver. Repair permissions. Restart and you should be good to go.

OH LET ME DOUBLE THAT and raise you -- I had M-Audio PCI -- I will never buy another M-Audio interface of any kind.

Very problematic drivers.
