MIDI EXPRESS XT (1997) CONNECTION

Post by pschmailinglist »

Hi, is ther any way to connect MIDI EXPRESS XT TO PC, other than by parallel port? maybe USB?, is there an adaptor for the MOTU? because it doesn't have USB port on it.

Thank you for your help..

Hi, I have an older MIDI Express XT as well but it is the USB version, which has a USB port on it instead of parallel. MOTU released 2 versions of the older style XT, first the parallel then the USB version. Sounds like you have the parallel version... so thats the only way to hook it up. You might try and find a parallel --> USB adapter...
hope this was helpful.

you might try one of these:

By the way, i just noticed this question was already covered recently, heres the thread:

good luck!

Probably not what you want to hear, but it would probably be simpler to just get an usb version. You can find one pretty cheap on Ebay if you look often enough...

Don't forget that, with the parallel version, you may have drivers issues and so on...

yeah i know, but i got this dirt cheap plus i dont really want another usb-device chipping away at the bandwidth of my 828mk2 usb

maybe i should stick to standalone mode with the XT... the belkin card is quite expensive as well...

mmm

MIDI Express Parallel

Post by davezedlee »

just buy a PCI Parallel port... they're kinda hard to find, but any "computer graveyard" type stores usually have them (usually dozens at a time)

works with my Asus P5W DH Deluxe, if a little ghetto

those "USB to parallel adapters" very rarely work... the drivers aren't looking for a USB device that works "like" a parallel port

im using(or trying to use) a laptop, so my options are limited

the graveyard :D

just got back from it to get my Zip hooked up in my MPC2000XL

there's always a special brand of people working in those stores, very funny. very funny indeed :)
