[TRAVELER] Firewire port freezing unit

Post by Mika »

Hey guys, I think my traveler is dysfunctionning, maybe someone experienced something similar although I didnt find searching in the forum.

So here goes : each time I plug something in the 2d firewire port the TRAVELER freezes. If it's plugged before I start it, it will freeze on the "Ver 1.07" display while booting and stay there forever.
If its plugged while the TRAVELER is already running and I start the external firewire HD or plug my MACBOOK it freezes instantly. Funny thing is as soon as I unplug the device the TRAVELER resumes functionning.

I never noticed that since I was not chaining anything so far. At first I suspected my external firewire (brand ICY DOCK) but then I changed cables and although tried with just the MACBOOK and it did the same.

So it's time for repairs mmm?

Unit is gone for check-up at MOTU Germany. I'm glad I bought it at Thomann since they offer 3 years warranty and mine was 1,5 years old.

Hi Mika...

I don't want to depress u but by now its the 5th time I exchenge the Traveler unit I bought from Thomann. It's a really good interface, with lots of functions and really good converters and preamps.

BUT
you have to be very lucky to get a fully functional one. It seems that lot of people that recently purchased Traveler through Europe have problems...

Thomann is very reliable and fair. Within 30 days when u receive a faulty unit u can exchange it with a new one without paying anything.

U can also exchange Traveler with another audio interface if 30 days haven't passed. So if the replacement comes also malfunctional forget Traveler and get an RME fireface or Focusrite Saffire Pro.

I am very curious to see if u gonna receive a good one so please let me know...

Dang, that's gloomy

The unit is still in transit via UPS but I'll keep you updated in this topic once I know more. I hope it's just a small problem on the FW port. Everything else worked allright. I guess that makes me a lucky one, kinda.

How is the unit being powered? Bus power may be inadequate for daisy-chaining FW devices.

I received the Traveler & it's now working properly. I'm not sure what was changed since they did not detail the repairs. Anyway no more freezing when plugging FW in the second port & it's all that matters !

Congratulations to Thomann for honoring their 3 years warranty without a fuss. I didn't even pay the shipping since they had UPS pick up the unit from France to Germany. All in all it took one month from my first call to receiving it back, not long at all imo.
