Access Denied..insufficient privileges...aargh!

Post by chamelion »

As Admistrator of my studio computer, I, in my blinding ignorance, would have thought I'd have a complete set of privileges. Apparently not:

Apart from repairing permissions, what else can I do to get whatever privileges are missing?

Hey Geoff,

I'm just taking a wild guess here...

Click on the DP application and Get Info (Command-I).
Look towards the bottom where it says "Ownership & Permissions."
Maybe you can enable access from there? Like I said; it's just a shot in the dark.

Danged good thought 666. Thanks for the response, but that didn't do it. I'm going to have to take Frodo's advice and drop $$$$$$ to buy Disk Warrior. I was leaving that option as a last resort, as I was recently promoted to the rank of Scrooge. :)

chamelion,

Although it's an excellent idea/suggestion to purchase and have DiskWarrior v4 in the meantime you could try booting up from your OSX install CD/DVD and using Disk Utility on the install disk try "repair disk" ( bottom right hand side of the First Aid window ). The "repair disk" is a low level version of DiskWarrior. That may be enough to just get you back in business until you purchase DiskWarrior.

It is also well worth the monies to purchase TechToolPro v4.5.

Hope this helps.

This error does not necessarily mean there is anything wrong with your disk. I've seen this happen before and all it took was a change in the file/folder permissions. Do a "get info" on the file/folder in question and see what the access privileges are. If they are not set to write as well as read, change them.

You can change an entire volume at once using the get info dialogue. Just make sure to hit "apply to enclosed items."

Geoff, does this project live on a second drive?

Hi Blue. I've checked the ownership/permissions on the DP5 Get Info, and it is set to read and write. The projects do live on a second internal drive, but I haven't even reached the project stage yet. I can't even get the bloody thing to complete the launch sequence.

I just bought DW, and Im about to fire it up and see if it can kill the dreaded demon! Wish me luck.

Cheers,

Geoff

Ahh. I just assumed you got this error trying to open an existing project. Never mind.

DW should work out well. It's a must have. Good luck to you.

Bloody charming that is! A bloke asks for someone to wish him luck (not too much to ask, I would have thought), and he splats a bloody great green cowpat on my window.

I hope you get everything straightened out with you computer chamelion.

I just had my computer tell me that my volume header needs minor repair.

I through in the install disc and it fixed it, but I will have to admit OS X is starting to really piss me off.

how does all this stuff get screwed up in the first place?

Hi Frodo. I ran DW's Files sequence this afternoon. After about half an hour it hit the wall. I got an error message suggesting that I contact the techies, quoting Error 2022,2977. Aaarrgh! Only I could have that kind of luck! Obviously something is amiss, but I have no idea what it could be. I'll get an email off to them tomorrow morning. Dang!
