Making a time-range selection overcomes this problem, I think - just drag over a range in the time-line, and click on one of the grouped tracks. All the grouped tracks should be highlighted in the selected time range.

I simply want to edit across a few tracks with the scissor tool. If I highlight one in the group should not the rest of the group be highlit? It seems a simple task and it is true, Pro Tools handles this quite easily.Tim wrote:Well there should, but the exceptions should be user defined prefs.PJ wrote: If the tracks are grouped, there shouldn't be any exceptions.

If grouped tracks have different lenghts, I can't get it work like in PT. What settings do you have in custom groups settings? What causes that the different lenght clips will all active e.g. by just hitting with scissor? I would very much like to know the answer (and I really hope I've always done something wrongly).HCMarkus wrote:Yes, that's what happens if Grouping is set up properly.sjpc0 wrote:I simply want to edit across a few tracks with the scissor tool. Guys, I'll say it one more time: try making a selection in the time ruler and then clicking on one of the grouped tracks - see my post above. Read through the whole chapter on track groups, and also check out the chapter on selections. The User Guide can be very helpful.

Seriously, just highlight the longest soundbyte, hit shift, and click the other soundbytes. Not the first one's length encompasses all of them., and they will remained grouped as long as you hold shift while you edit in one of them. I do this all of the time and it's never bothered me, across many many tracks.
Now, if you group these tracks, then all you need to do is select the length of the longest one with the I-beam (?) tool ("I"), and once again, this will encompass the lengths of all of them, right?

Sure you can do it that way, but then you still have to make extra move (that you don't have to do with PT).BobK wrote:Guys, I'll say it one more time: try making a selection in the time ruler and then clicking on one of the grouped tracks - see my post above. And gearboy, What I'm saying is that it's faster in Pro Tools. You don't have to do anything first, just cut or edit. I'm not saying that it can't be done in DP.
If you have many tracks you may not see all tracks (to click with shift or zoom, select etc.)
ps. I'm really a big DP fan, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to improve this software. I earn my living with DP, so faster I can edit, more I have free time ;)

Gearboy I have followed both the above paths and it still is not working.gearboy wrote:Seriously, just highlight the longest soundbyte, hit shift, and click the other soundbytes. I select the longest soundbyte . When I hit shift click on another track it should select the same length as the the first selection and it doesn't. I then tried grouping and trying it and the same thing happens. ???

Ok, then don't select the second soundbyte, but look at where the track's name is highlighted on the left (with all of the automation data etc). Just shift click the track names.sjpc0 wrote:Gearboy I have followed both the above paths and it still is not working.gearboy wrote:Seriously, just highlight the longest soundbyte, hit shift, and click the other soundbytes. yup ok, did that and they now are both selected however if I then use the scissors I'm only getting an edit on the track that I cut, not also on the other one. I think I'll just use the shift click on the soundbyte process though it seems like something isn't working quite rightgearboy wrote:Ok, then don't select the second soundbyte, but look at where the track's name is highlighted on the left (with all of the automation data etc).
