Traveler main outs dead?
I've been very happy with my Traveler the past year, and I've used it extensively for live gigging, and recording at home. I was routinely using my Traveler on my MacBook Pro with Traktor for a DJ set. I use main outs 1-2 to go out to the house, and 3-4 for my headphone mix. For some reason, main outs 1-2 have stopped working. CueMix shows that output is going to 1-2, but the Traveler is not showing output on 1-2, nor do I hear anything coming out of the channels. It was an easy fix at the gig, just to switch to channels 5-8, but it looks like that the main outs 1-2 are dead or something. Has anyone experienced any similar problems? I'm pretty sure the Traveler is out of warranty now, but its bad timing now and hoping that I can resurrect it.

I have had this happen intermittently, the problem usually clearing up after a power cycle (or two). Sometimes forcing the Traveler to change sample rates would fix my problem as well. I'm knocking on wood as I type this because this hasn't happened for some time now
Your problem may be the jacks themselves, but try power cycling the Traveler.

Hello Guys, I'm having a bigger issue with outputs.. not only the digital ones:
I've recently purchased a brand new MOTU Traveler, I've done all the connection right, but, even if I can see input signals on its analog LED meters, output LEDs are definitely off and no audio is audible in all the outputs (with or without firewire connection). There's no mute, levels are up and I've tried with all the output configs.
And I've forgot to mention that even trying with computer connection (iMac Intel Core Duo) with CueMix Console I can't select any output: I can read "output disabled" on its selecting button, and even if I choose any other output from its pop-up menu, it returns always on "output disabled"!
I've already tryied to disinstall and reinstall all the software...
What else can I do?
Thanks for any help!

What are your assignments in the MOTU Firewire Console? Not in the Cuemix?

State change from 'Unread' to 'In progress'
Hi Marco,
Have you tried to reset factory defaults?
-Push the MIX knob/button.
-Using the same knob, scroll clockwise until you see a page titled "Factory Defaults."
-Push the SELECT knob/button.
-When asked "Are you sure?" push the VALUE knob/button.
Be sure to turn the volume down on the unit, as it resets to 0dB. Are the outputs functional after you run through this procedure?

Hi Joseph, sure I've already tried to reset factory defaults many times.
Nothing's changed...

Hi Marco,
Open the CueMix Console application. Plug a microphone into the first mic pre, turn up the trim, and verify that it is generating signal by observing the appropriate meter in CueMix. Select the output as Phones 1-2 above the master fader. Verify that signal is getting to the master bus by observing the appropriate meter in CueMix. Plug a pair of headphones into the PHONES jack. Do you hear the mic signal?

Hi Joseph, I've followed all your directions, this is the result:
1. CueMix Console opened and microphone plugged on first mic pre (trim adjusted so i can have about 2-3 LEDs showing signal on Traveler meters)
2. On CueMix nothing is showing any signal...
3. As I already explained, every time i try to select any output from the pop-up menu above the master fader, it returns to "Disabled" indication.
4. No signal on master bus at all!
...and I can't figure why on Traveler LED meters, none of its Output LED indicators is going ON... in ANY circumstance!

Hi Marco,
-Without your Traveler connected to your computer via firewire, push the MIX knob, and using the same knob, scroll clockwise until you see a page titled "Bus Output."
-Use the SELECT knob to scroll to "[Mix1]."
-Use the VALUE knob to scroll to "Analog1-2."
-Push the VALUE knob to select "Analog1-2." It should stop flashing when you do this.
-Push the MIX knob again.
-If the Mix Bus listed on the LCD screen is not Mix1, push the MIX BUS knob until you see Mix1 listed.
-Use the CURSOR knob to scroll to the fader beneath Analog Input 1. It should be flashing.
-Use the VALUE knob to turn the volume of the channel up to 0dB.
-Plug a microphone into Mic Input 1. Make sure to flip the 48V switch if it is a condenser microphone. Slowly turn up the mic preamp as you speak into it.
Do you now see the output LED's for Analog 1-2 light up?

Hi Joseph,
I did carefully all the instructions you gave me... and the result is always the same: absolutely no activity on output LEDs and no sound at all!
That's normal???

Hi Marco,
Were you able to make the Bus Output "Analog1-2?" Did it snab back to "None." Is it still stuck on "Disabled" in CueMix Console?

Hi Joseph,
On the front panel of the Traveler I'm able to select the Bus Output "Analog1-2" (even if non sound and no LEDs become active). At the opposite, I'm not able to select any output in CueMix Console (it returns in "Disabled" mode as soon as I leave the mouse).
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Marco,
Have you tried redownloading the drivers? They can be found at http://www.motu.com/download/mac-downloads.html , in the Firewire/USB2 Software section of Mac OS X. Download the MOTU Universal Audio Install- OSX (version 1.4.3). Also, you might want to update the Traveler's firmware. The updat eis labeled Traveler 1.07 Firmware Update (OSX) and can be found in the same download section as the drivers. After downloading the update, expand the .zip, and run the Setup file in the archive. Follow the on-screen instructions. Let me know if this changes the situation in any way.

Hi Marco,
Which recording application do you normally use? Are you able to configure the Traveler's outputs from there and hear audio?

Hi Joseph,
I use GarageBand on my iMac Intel Core Duo... and no, I'm not able to hear any audio there too.

Hi Marco,
Are you able to open MOTU Audio Setup and select "Analog 1-2" as your Default Stereo Output? Are you able to to set the Traveler as an output in the Sound section of System Preferences? If you are able to make both of these configurations, when you open iTunes, are you then able to hear audio played in the program through the Traveler?

Hi Joseph,
Yes, yes, no!!!
Yes, i'm able to set Analog 1-2 output on MOTU Audio Setup.
Yes, I'm able to set Traveler as output on System Preferences.

That was quite comprehensive. The only other things that I would check are
1 MOTU FireWire Console. Ensure your outputs are correct, sample rate is correct. Under the Traveler tab, check that all settings are correct. Perhaps to start with, just try to have clock source as internal. I take it your firmware is updated to 1.07
2 Check that your Audio MIDI Setup is correct with Default/System Input/output all pointing to MOTU Traveler. Clock Source should be Internal. Audio Input/Output is analogue.
I know these are the basics, but sometimes that's where we need to go to. If this doesn't work, then you need a replacement unit. As far as I can see, everything else is correct, unless in Cuemix you are routing incorrectly.
Good Luck
