First User of MachFive v2 Sit-in

Post by 3over3 »

... well, I thought... y'know... now we've nothing to complain about...

Anyway. I'm not leaving until someone claims to actually have a living, breathing (preferably free-upgraded) working version of v2. I've nicked some stuff from the drinks party and I've got monkey wipes, so I might last quite some time.

Who's with me?

I just placed my order, so while I am "not protesting" in the least, drinks and monkey man jokes sound like fun while I wait for the new toys to arrive. 8)

Silly question about the "free" upgrade.
Are they throwing in the 32 gb of samples or is that
asking wayyyy to much.
Or does anyone know.
I can't find any info on the website.

thanks

I'm sure (in my own mind that is!) it'll come as the same package as the paid for product, samples included. Makes no sense for them not to include.

Always nice to have bundled samples you wouldn't necessarily buy otherwise.... Wonder how that drum kit will compare to BFD?

I'm not completley confident in this, but do You guys think an external
USB2 drive with a fairly large cache would be sufficient for streaming
samples from?

USB2 drives are useful for many things, but I wouldn't rely on them for streaming other than small quantities. USB delivers its data in "packages", so that means it hiccups to collect its next package and doesn't sustain it's optimum transfer rate the way FW does. (ie: potential audio drop outs.)

In a pinch, some users who have drives with both USB and FW connections have put one drive on the USB port just to open up the FW bus-- but not as a long-term solution.

Wow - I am looking for my 'original receipt' right now so I can get my free upgrade. Geez - 2 1/2 years later and I've gotta find the reciept.... In all honesty, being pretty much forced to use Kontakt, I have grown to appreciate its flexibility, although, as with most NI stuff, there is always another layer to the onion. And sometimes, if you just want do do a simple task, you have to go pretty deep to do it. I am really excited to see that Mach V2 has some Vienna samples as well - it's smart of them to do that. By pausing the 'overview' video, it looks like V2 doesn't have as many as Kontakt, but that doesn't matter, either, I actually hope they are offbeat ones, because V2 can read the Konakt Vienna sampes as well. Looking forward to actually reading someone's review who has used it!

I received the following email from Sweetwater today. No check of when I bought it or anything, just "go download your free update. So maybe EVERYBODY'S getting a free update??? :) Yippee!!!!!
----

I'm sure you've already heard, but if not, MOTU has officially announced the release of version two. You can sign up to get your free upgrade at the following link: https://www.motu.com/store_products/upgrades/machfive Or contact their customer service at 617-576-2760. The installer is fairly large so it will not be available as a download, and it true MOTU fashion, it will come in a box with a manual (imagine that!)

I hope things are well.

Those of us who bought it in 2003?

Post by macguitarman »

What happens to us Those of us who bought Mach Five v 1 when it first came out and had to basically beta test this for free.

Bought mine way back in 2003,

I don't care what anyone says, v1 was useless, and I am an engineer and was very patient.

This is not a way to reward your first , longest running customers of Mach Five, MOTU

Throw us a bone, if not free, then 50 bucks or something, MOTU you must step up here.

Yeah, I'm with you... I bought mine 11/04... so, I missed it by 2 months.

Do we have anyone here who is actually getting a free upgrade? Confirmation? If so, anyone who purchased after 01/05?

I bought v1 in January 2006. I emailed MOTU my proof of purchase a couple of days ago and I'm awaiting their response. I'll report back when I find out what's happening.

Here's the report - I only registered M5v1 on MOTU.com, so I now have to register by post with my local (UK) distributor who's handling the upgrade. They're looking at a couple of weeks to delivery at this point. Forgot to ask if they yet know what the upgrade actually is - full library, iLok, etc.

Me as well. I purchased just before the cut-off date for being able to get the free upgrade - I think around November '05 - I emailed MOTU @ the time to make sure I would get it, they said I would, and I am. I had to fill out a form and attach the email receipt - and they are delivering it to my doorstep in 2 weeks. I'm sure it comes with the DVD libraries, but I doubt iLok, since we all should have ours from our first Mach V experience. It'll be nice to not have to wholly rely on Kontakt - it's so buggy with DP.
