Anomalies in DP5.12 and OSx 10.4.10; particularly graphics

Post by nannygrimshaw »

i'm not sure of the relationship between graphics and performance in DP, but grpahics sometimes get clunky before a crash, which means i get nervous when the position marker moves jerkily.
does anyone have an opinion about whether better graphics hardware would actually help avoid crashes and general performance, or is graphics performance completely separate from actual performance?

i have a G5 dual 2.0 4.5GB, 2 HDD's, but only the stock 64MB GeForce card [AGP].

i just updated Pluggo to 3.6.1, and the position marker is now very slow and jerky. with 3.5.4, it was definitely smoother. more hefty support frameworks running in the background, perhaps?

It can make a difference-- unfortunately. I had to put a Radeon card in my G5 that had 256MB of VRAM. There was noticeable improvement beyond the performance compromise of Work Quanta and Prime Seconds features.

Text in plug-ins

Post by estudios.sdb »

Hi there,

In my workstation all the plug-ins appear with diferent fonts or diferent font sizes. They all work fine, but they turned more uglier.

It only started happening since i updated to DP 5.12 and 10.4.10.

Thanks.

thanks Frodo. not quite sure what those things are, but that the improvement was general and noticeable makes me think seriously about a new card. i always disregard graphics as being for designers/vid effects/gamers and those nice widdly effects when you launch widgets. which, incidentally did not happen on my system originally, but softupdates have now introduced.

i guess a 9800 Pro might be a sound choice?

Could be. I'm not sure what's out there new or used, but get the best one you can afford, and make sure it says 'Mac Edition'. I highly recommend Radeon.
