works fine here on my g4 laptop as well, of course it went on my other laptop that i use for day to day stuff.Scary stuff though, but it is a beta.

I tried it for a day and uninstalled becuase 1Paswrd doesn't support it yet.

So far no problems.

works well on my work PC!!!

amazing. it is fast...but a cpu hog compared to firefox. can't run it quickly or reliably while rendering video at the same time.

ill probably stick with ff on pc for now.

They updated the core WebKit framework - and if something is seriously conflicting, the only fix is to revert to the current 'approved' version, which can only be restored by reinstalling the core OS. This is due to where the WebKit framework lies in relation to the OS/HAL/Hardware layers...it's pretty deeply ingrained.

I never install beta software on my production machine. Too risky. Back when I was developing, I would get the Apple Dev Kits and install all the beta crap. I became master of the OS reinstall

I've heard a lot of negatives from a lot of sources about the beta of Safari 3, on both platforms. It's not worth the risk.

For Mac users who want to try a more recent browser update, I highly recommend Camino 1.5, which I installed last night and made my new default browser in place of Firefox 2 (I might switch back to Firefox with version 3, or even to Opera 9.2 once I investigate it again).

Camino 1.5 is faster than the other browsers (Opera might be faster still), and the downloads window gives a lot more information and options than anything out there. I am very happy with it so far. I was already torn between it and Firefox with the previous version of Camino, but version 1.5 shows major improvements.

Safari is a pretty good browser, but there is no question that it is slower, and also that (like Firefox) it starts to spin out of control once it's open for a long time (especially with many tabs).

Between Firefox and Camino, the latter will bring you closer to the visual experience of using Safari, for those who like the way Safari looks.

Once Safari 3 stabilises and has an officuial release, then I think it is time to re-compare and re-evaluate browsers. But with so many fine options out there these days (finally!), I see no reason to take such high risk being on the bleeding edge.

That hasn't happened to me yet as far as I can recall. But a few security updates from Apple has. That last one seems particularly troublesome.

I'm now into my second evening using the Camino 1.5 update, and it is unbelievably smooth. I did have one glitch last night but I forget what it was. It is way faster at downloading, and gives much more feedback, as I mentioned earlier. I cannot think of any reason to try the beta of Safari 3 at this point. Camino is king... for now.
