Buffer Question

Post by jlward »

I am currently using a Traveler and DP 5.11 with a MBP to do live performance recording. Depending on options, I generally run 4-8 channels, occasionally 16. I use an external hard-drive at 7200rpm for recording. I monitor my inputs via CueMix and do not monitor anything through DP except for visually monitoring the levels in the recording. Is there any need for me to "optimize" my buffer? I don't run any real-time effects and since I monitor through CueMix rather than DP, latency doesn't matter to me. Do I need to minimize my buffer setting, or can I set it high and not worry about pops, clicks, dropouts, etc? Can setting the buffer too high cause me any problems?

You are only listening to cuemix, so set your buffers as high as you like. The higher the better--you would not want a dropout.
