New SVX plugin eating up cpu

Post by rolandj »

I have a Mac dual 500 and I use 10-4-8 op system w/DP5.11 Waves /Motu 8pre and have added SVX -Ampeg bass modeler plug in.The SVX says I need a min. of 866mhz processor. Does my Mac have 1000mhz total??or just 500 max from either processor. The SVX spikes my cpu meter in DP Audio performance and gives error message and or shuts down DP when i use it. any thoughts....thanks.

I've got a dual 1Ghz and SVX pretty much chews that all up. It's a power hungry (but awesome) plug-in.

Dude... I think you are _ _ _ _ _ ed. Buy a new Mac if you can possibly afford it. Your studio will amaze you.

I think the only people who could answer that are the ones who programmed it. All you can do is try it and see. My guess is that no, it will not handle it. But it may be programmed to split the load. In any case, a dual 500 is not up for much processing in today's audio world.

That said, I do have a Powerbook with a single 800MHz G4 processor that will actually run DP. But just barely. I can track 4 or 5 tracks at once, but very little room for processing during playback.

I just installed it and am trying it on my G5 Quad 2.5 Ghz machine. I've got a pretty thick sequence running and when I switch in and out it looks like it's adding somewhere between 10% and 15% to the overall load... my audio performance meter is between 30%-40% So far so good. It's really nice for what it is. I think the trick is to take advantage of the crossgrades or package prices they have @ the IK store or at a dealer who has simular deals....

OK I just applied it to a Reason Bass track and it sounded awesome so I recorded the output with it on it. Then I put the plug in on that (so that would be twice) and yes of course it sounds even better! So running multiple instances of it one track may give that elusive "perfect bass sound" :D

As an update to trying the demo, I'm getting some problems where the plug in wouldn't open and even some crashes in DP... I wrote to IK Multi... We'll see what happens
