Anyone use a Mackie D8B and a 2408 MKII?
I just picked up a mackie D8B and I want to use it to control my Sonar system on my PC which I have connected to my MOTU 2408MKII. I am kinda new to digital recording so...
Can anyone advise me on how to hook this up??
Hey - if there's a chance someone also knows whether my 2408 is compatible with Vista, that would be helpful right about now too.

Being this is your first post here, welcome!
The D8B was designed roughly 10-years ago, it's an older product in today's technology but is still a viable option. As a control surface, it's not all that powerful. But isn't the reason you bought a digital console to mix on your desk digitally via the ADAT optical ports? As to vista, I'd not plan on using VISTA for at least a year.

Thank you,

MOTU's website says that they have Vista-compatible drivers for the 424 card, but not for the 324. Since 324-based interfaces (like the 2408mkII) are compatible with the 424 card, you could upgrade to the 424 if you want to run Vista (assuming everything in your system is up to snuff for Vista as well).
"I don't see any method at all, sir."
Thanks guys and yes, I'm new here at Unicornation. I bought the D8B because its a great way for an old analog guy like me to get into digital. I've been using the 2408MKII for a few years but in my studio I have always run analog consoles.
So the answer to how I connect the two is using the ADAT optical in/out??
As for Vista, I'm just going to call the guys who are building my next machine to stick with XP...
Thanks again!

If "the guys" building your audio computer are even thinking VISTA, you may want to re-consider who's touching your machine. While MOTU is going to be supporting VISTA as well as Cakewalk, no one else is at this point. And just because they are supporting it, doesn't mean it will actually work.

"The guys" are my staff - I am in the IT services business and we are 100% PC - no Mac stuff. This has caused my musical career endless pain, not being able to use Macs and all...but, on the business side it has done me quite well!
Hey Brad, what is the cable type that connects the ADAT port to the MOTU? What is this called?
Appreciate the responses and assistance. At some point I will be a contributor to this site!
