GarageBand works, DP5 nope!

I am trying to set up DP5 so that my 828 is used for the inputs and Built-in-audio is used ofr the outs to my poweramps and monitors. In Garage band it just works. In GarageBand I just choose my input(828 channel#) then just choose whatever output I want(I just use my internal Apple soundcards output because it makes it easier for my video editing).
I can not do this in DP5! Why?
If anyone can help I will give them a years supply of something...

Shift-click both the 828 and the built-in in the audio hardware setup.

Sounds like a pretty crazy setup. You're liable to have clocking problems which could mean your recorded audio will have pops and clicks.

May your non-denominational god bless you! I knew it was something simple. However, there are pumping, white noises that occur during the recording process. I do not detect them when playing back though. I may just do my overdubs to a mixdown in GarageBand. It seems like MOTU should be ahead of a consumer product like GarageBand on this, oh well. Thanks a bunch.

Oh, the reason I don't want my 828 on all the time is because I don't want it to die by using it! This hardware is funny that way(use it and it breaks).

I'm sorry but that's the worst reason I've ever heard for not using a piece of gear. You spend a whole lot of money on a high quality audio interface and then don't use it because you're worried it will break!!?! You can always turn it off when you're not running DP.

Oh well, it's your funeral.

Sorry for saying that!
It's just that I have had this piece of gear "Pop" on me twice so far. Once before recording a fantastic classical guitarist in Europe and then again back in the states. Talk about fragile gear! Have you seen how many 828 blow up? How many here at Unicornation? How many not here? It's the firewire that "pops" by the way. I would rather not have to turn it on for mixing if possible. That's just me I guess.

FYI, my 828 (original) has been on for about six years. I never turn it off. It did blow a fuse once, but that's it.

Remember that an internet bitching site is going to attract people bitching about something.

People who have trouble with an 828 are going to post long dramatic threads about thier 828. You can be assured if, say, one out of every 10,000 828's out there has problems, somebody is going to post about it. That's human nature.

But on the other hand. . .People who don't have trouble with their 828s ARE NOT going to post long dramatic threads about how great their 828s are. It just isn't human nature.

So common sense will tell us that we really cannot make any assumption about "how many 828 blow up" by the number of posts you read on an internet board,

At any rate, have you contacted MOTU about this "popping" to see what the cause of it is? It is my understanding that if it turns out there is an actual problem w your 828, MOTU repairs them for a very very reasonable rate. But maybe your unit does not need repair and it is an issue of software driver, driver settings, or something simple like that. At any rate it would not hurt to contact MOTU.

I just think it's wonderful that my 896 has not exploded.

<---That's the kind of thing you don't find people saying very often, but if you asked them, they'd mostly agree. Just because they don't say it doesn't mean they don't believe it.

In actuality, I do turn off both my 896 and 1296 so that the fans won't get wobbly. Worn bearings on a fan cause it to make big noise when the fan comes on. The less you run them, the less the fans wear out. Worn-out bearings make fans unbearable. From screeching to growling, the noise can make you want to leave. I keep telling myself I'm going to buy a supply of fans so I won't have to do that, but so far I haven't done it. Then I could just leave them on 24/7.
