WHAT DID I CLICK????
Okay. I am three days deep into D.P. I am comming over from Sonar. Mostly I am feeling more and more at home. (digging MIDI editing) All of a sudden, pasting MIDI copies at the playhead has ceased to work in any window that seems to apply. (No matter how carefully that track seems to be selected:-(
What the heck??!?! My brain is fried...Anyone feel like helping me pick it up?

If you are in the Tracks Overview, select the segment you want (copy). Then single click in the measure you want to paste-- then paste. It has nothing to do with the wiper.
When you select your paste location, you will see one of two things:
1. The measure turning blue
2. A Flashing location line.
Option 2 occurs when you click anywhere other than towards the beginning of the bar and this is harder to work with.
If you need to paste at a location other than the downbeat, look in the lower right corner of the Tracks Overview window frame. You will see a '-' and a '+'. Use the '+' to expand horizontally to the proper beat subdivision, then do your pasting against the subdivision line rather than the bar line itself.
make sense?
(and, btw, what you clicked was the self-destruct button!!
) j/k

What if you click in the edit field after moving the play head (Graphic and Seq Edit)?
Also hitting F5 or Command-Decimal Point will place the Selection Start or Insertion Point at the counter.

Me thinks Quantize or some such:
I had tried both suggestions thus far. I should have mentioned this but could it be something Quantize related that's guiding the events around on the board?
Re: Me thinks Quantize or some such:
Edit Menu/Smart Selections will cause pasting to a grid near the counter.

BAM!
Now at least if I click into where I want it to go, it pastes on the payhead in that register. That's more like Sonar always was. I like the other dudes I idea
about single clicking wherever I want it to paste but I have not reproduced that quite yet.

Re: BAM!
In the Graphic and Seq editors, click once up in the time ruler to place an Insertion Point.
In the tracks overview click in the time ruler or the edit field.
Clicking in the Time Ruler will cause pasting in the source track, while any track can be chosen in the edit field.
The TO window always resolves to grid unless Command is held down to override it.

Re: WHAT DID I CLICK????
One common error (happens to me all the time) is that if a region is selected -- even just one note -- THAT is where it will paste. You can have your cursor cued to the exact spot you want to paste, but if that note is still selected in bar 172, everything you paste is going to start on that note in bar 172. Look at your Undo. Does it say "Undo Paste?" If so, it pasted it SOMEWHERE, but not where you thought it was going.North Coast Sound System wrote:Okay. I am three days deep into D.P. I am comming over from Sonar. To be sure there is nothing selected, hit COMMAND-D before pasting. That deselects anything in DP.

Command D!
That !@#$%&* rocks.....
I didn't know the command D thing yet. I had all my little things like that mapped out in Sonar. On a Mac Book Pro, half of DP's commands don't really work and you have to re-assign them all. I feel like I am making progress now, due in large part to all ur friendly help here.
THANKS GUYS!
