Yeah, this is basically the thoughts I posted last week - who is the target market? Corporate users can't use it because their IT departments are not very likely to support anything other than BlackBerry and Microsoft Exchange for wireless email sync anytime soon. "Power" iPod users with a large amount of music on their existing iPod can't use it because there is not enough disk/memory space. Teens can't use it because it is too expensive - both the phone and the monthly Cingular service. I guess that leaves the small business owners who can use the web-mail and don't need BlackBerry, and that leaves the late-20s, 30s and early 40s crowd who can afford it and just want it because it is cool (which it is).

OTOH, they are only going for 1% market share, so they are probably going to get that.

Add to this that cell phones in Japan already do most of what the iPhone can do (and more) and you wonder why the folks at Samsung and Motorola aren't already hawking Americans with this stuff. There was a TV spot a few days ago that showed cell users in Japan paying for stuff by waving their cell phones across a sensor. Train tickets, lunch, newspapers... And they can get streaming video, news, etc. They DID have buttons...

When it's actually released, then I'll have a real hands on look at.

They can have that! All it takes is some thief to get your phone and start having fun! Next thing you know your in debt! I like the Apple phone for just having to lug around one device... and 4 GB of memory is VERY adequate even for me (I listen to 16/48K files on my iPod and have more than enough music to listen to on my way to work etc.) plus... having the ELEGANCE of OS X in a device makes the INTEGRATION and USABILITY worth having. When I want to do something I like to do it a fast and as easy as possible, and Apple has always delivered in those areas... Blackberry phones suck and all the other phones out there are just like Steve say's... HARD TO USE! I'm amazed that OS X has made it into the mobile market and now things can be EASY to do... plus, this is only the BEGINNING! How long has BB and all the windows based phones been out there and Apple's FIRST attempt smoked em! As time goes on the developers will get in on it and the skies the limit! And about the buttons... you are STUCK with that type of interface... Apple is doing it like a computer... in SOFTWARE, so the input menu's can accommodate the application... This is the BEST type of user interface made (@ the moment) and to use those STUPID tiny buttons is a pain!!! Great job Apple for making things EASY... again!
