Shuts down when waking from sleep.

Post by btate »

When my mac has been asleep for a while, it shuts down when I try to wake it. Does anyone have a clue what might be happening. It started happening when I installed DP 5.11 and started using the 8pre, although that may have nothing to do with it.

I don't let my computer sleep. Maybe just a carryover from OS9 days, but I always had problems when the machine woke up. I let the screen turn off after a period of inactivity, but keep the drives spinning and the CPU engaged until I shut down.

Try resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU) - the process is different for each model, so Google for "Power Manager Reset {machine type]" and you'll find the procedure.

The other thing I would try is to reset the PRAM - restart while holding cmd-opt-p-r and keep those keys down until you hear 3 startup chimes. Then release all keys and the system will boot normally.
