HELP.....Error message

Post by kwiz »

Has anyone ever seen this error message: ID = -199?
Is there a work around?

I've been trying to open older projects in DP5.11 and every last one of them
are corrupted somehow. I've run Disk Warrior which hasn't helped and two projects opened up when I had a working DP project open and went to the file menu and selected open. (the old OS9 trick)
These projects were done in DP4.6x and won't open in that version as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Remove the all the audio files from their folder and see if the project opens. If it does then one or more of them are corrupted. Usually it's just the file header. Replace the files in halves to weed out the offender(s) then see this post for info on how to repair them:

kwiz, others have suggested dragging the actual project file into the Chunks window.

I know that when DP 5.0 first appeared, it was also suggested to rebuild the Audio Bundles-- deleting the current one and making a new one-- then reassigning the routing.

Haven't heard of anyone doing that for 5.11-- seems the Chunks trick seems to be working.

It might be that "incompatible third party MAS" thing most of us dealt with. That'd be my bet.

Try pulling out all third-party MAS plugs and VIs from the MAS folder, then opening in 5.11.

DP changed the way it deals with MAS plugs after v.5. Some third-party developers adjusted. Most didn't. Of those that didn't, they usually have AU versions you can switch out.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help guys!
dweiss,

Your info was what worked.
Once I found the file culprit the project opened.
I just downloaded Soundhack which shows that the culprit file is headerless.

Now I need to figure out how to recreate the header using Soundhack. :)

Excellent. That's great news! Unfortunately, I have no first hand experience with Soundhack. I had a -199 a while back but I replaced the bad file with a backup. Someone here will be able to help.
