HD192e asio drivers... or lack thereof.

Post by Normandyrocks »

I just installed an HD192 PCIe in my studio and i am puzzled about the asio driver thing!? All I see in Cubase 4 is a direct sound asio driver. This is in no way even remotely useful to me. Anyone else have this problem or do I just need to update the drivers?

I tried a 2408 mk3 a couple years ago and it seems like it had asio drivers!? The bummer is because of the holidays MOTU has not processed my sign up request so I cannot download the latest drivers :( So I guess I'm hosed til monday

Sorry for the frustrated tone. I was just really looking forward to hearing this thing along with my new big ben !!

Have A great day,
Norm

I'm not sure I get what's going on. Are you using Mac OSX? Isn't ASIO an OS 9 thing? Doesn't the HD192 come with audio drivers that let you use it with any app that uses CoreAudio?

Sorry James ;)
I know this is intended to be a "mac only" board. But I have noticed a large population of PC users here as well. Probably due to the lack of a PC forum.
Cubase tends to work best with the ASIO drivers and I seem to remember that the 2408mk3 I tried a while back had them..
At any rate, MOTU did process my registration late last night! So I did download the newer drivers. Also in the knowledge base i found something that suggested that you have to do a custom install and select these drivers. Hopefully these tidbits will solve the problem.
Thanks for all you do ;)

New drivers fixed it! Everything sounds great!
One question for anyone who knows... how do you terminate the HD192 when clockling from a big ben?? A 75 ohm terminater shows it over terminated and no terminater shows it as not terminated!? I hear nothing out of the ordinary either way, but I hate having the slightest doubt when it comes to recording.
Thanks in advance!!

Hey... just wondering. Do you hear an audible difference when playing back through the HD192 on internal clock vs. the Big Ben? I was wondering about an external clock today. Although there's a Lucent model that seems more within my budget.

I haven't had a chance to hear it without yet. The whole rig sounds great though!! I have a 10 hr session today but the first chance I get I will record a vocal and acoustic guitar with and without the big ben and post my finding!
I looked at the lucid also, but I had a hard time finding any comparisons of the to products. i don't think I even found a review of the lucid by itself.
the big ben got rave reviews. even found one that utilized the hd 192 with the big ben. the big ben is the only clock that I have found that claims to be "jitter free"! of course that could mean that they are not charging extra for the jitter ;)
Have a great day!
