DP5.1 and Tascam FW1884 on Intelmac
Anybody can help me?
Can‘t get the Controlsurface Plug of the FW1884 for DP working.
At Tascam tehy told me, the current version would work, but to me it seems like a vintage ppc one.
Anybody has any experience on that?

If I were you , I would give a try for that Plug . There is some PPC programs that does work very well in the recent OS on Intel Macs . There is Rosetta that emulate the PPC and in some circumstances it does not require to re-write the program to get it to work well.

e'loo put up this link on another thread. The Tascam forum in general may be very helpful with getting its drivers and devices working on the Intels themselves. Once that's working properly, then issues with DP can be explored.

This is only one thread, but check the entire 1884 forum of threads for helpful info.
I'm not sure if this is still an issue on the Intel Macs, but contrary to what Apple has said, it is still best when installing drivers to shut down the computer entirely to dump stubborn UNIX associations.
I was considering the 1884, but I think I'm going to go with the DM4800 instead. However-- I would recommend using 1884 driver v1.6 or later for Intel.

There is a Universal version 1.6 and there is a readme file with it that explain all there is to do to install the driver and how to upgrade your FW1884 .
Did you follow what they said in the readme file ....?

Re: DP5.1 and Tascam FW1884 on Intelmac
The 1.6 Driver is here for a long time and working very fine.
But it‘s only the driver for the FW1884 as an interface.
My problem is the plugin for DP which turns the 1884 into a controller
for DP.
Let‘s have a look on that Tascam forum ....

Does any of this info help?
from motu.com/support
Launch the "FW-1884 Manager."
Under the Settings panel, select the control protocol to "FW-1884 Native" and in the Core Audio panel, select how you'd like to use your FW-1884 (as an 18, 8, or 2 channel device).
In DP, goto the Setup menu and go to the Configure Audio System >Configure Hardware Driver. Select FW-1884 as your hardware driver.
Next, go to the Setup menu and go to Control Surface Setup. Select FW-1884 as the driver as well as the MIDI port.

I really hope that this is not a glitch and there is some simple click buried in a menu somewhere. Keep us posted...

That just all works really well.Launch the "FW-1884 Manager."
Here, the FW1884 Controlsurface just won‘t show up, because it‘s not UB.Next, go to the Setup menu and go to Control Surface Setup. Select FW-1884 as the driver as well as the MIDI port.
That helps as a small solution, as in having the basic functions, like track mute, the faders, etc.
So i think we have to wait for a Universal Binary of the DP Control Surface Plugin.
Thanks a lot anyways for the help.

Why do you keep saying that the plugin is not UB when Tascam says it is in version 1.6cyborg haines wrote:That just all works really well.Launch the "FW-1884 Manager."

From remixmag.com
If you happen to be using a DAW that doesn't directly support the FW-1884, the unit will function through both a Mackie Control and a HUI emulation that is accessible through the management software. Your DAW will then need to be configured using one of those two protocols.
Again, for more info on protocols:
HUI
http://www.tascam.com/Products/FW-1884/ ... e_1_00.pdf
Mackie Control
http://www.tascam.com/Products/FW-1884/ ... e_1_00.pdf
While I don't have the 1884, I did download the 1.6 driver just to test it. I had no surface drivers in DP 5.1 at the time. After the download-- and restart-- HUI, Mackie, and Radikal were the available choices.
I went to Audio-MIDI setup and created a "device" for the 1884. The device icon appeared in the icon menu after installation.
In DP, you will not see a the name FW1884 or Tascam. Choose HUI or Mackie. The PDFs provide useful information on each protocol.
Here's hoping this helps.

Yes, the plugin and the 1.6 driver are two different things.
And yes it works also in HUI or Mackie mode.
It‘s a bit bizarre though, after working in native mode for quiet a long time (On a PPC, of course)
And meanwhile i got another response from Tascam, saying that yes, the plug doesn‘t work on Intels and they‘ll gonna release an Intel one somtime.
Thanks a lot for your help guys.

The driver is to get it to appear in coreaudio as a MIDI device and the plugin is for DP to recognize it as a control surface ?
The driver is UB but not the plugin ?

I am very sorry but I had not read all the messages here .cyborg haines wrote:Right on da button.
And I would say that you definitly have to wait for that UB plug and I know how it is frustrating .
