Plugin related crashes seems a good starting point.
I keep most plugins whenever possible in V-racks.
So I can disable them easily.
I keep aux tracks with reverbs and delay in one V-rack, master track with Masterwork-comp+eq+limit in a second V-rack.
Tonight, late, I just forgot once to disable my V-racks while tracking :
30 seconds later : bang, crash !

Funny, I've been having two great days without crashes... I didn't do nothing really different so I still don't know why these crashes come and go.
Anyways, I'm still in the dark because I didn't have all these problems with my G5.
I'm suspecting my HD being plugged FW through my 896HD though. I just bought a SATA express card and I'll try plugging my HD Directly to see if it helps...
I'm not sure about that EQ thing. I've had crashes with any plug ins. From MOTU, Apple & WaveArts. I've also had MW Comp making my CPU Spike like crazy when it's on a Ethno Instrument track but that's probably something I did or didn't do so I'm won't blame DP for it...I don't know where I read or heard this but try not to use DP's EQ

I have experienced problems, but last night I was mastering a new session using just spdif and had no crashes all evening, whilst simultaneously using all the MW plugs. I think the problem may be that the crashes are on sessions made on my G4 and DP4.6. I am going to try to re-assemble a (new 5.1) file from scratch and import the audio and see if that makes a difference.

Bark, this 4.61 project crashing 5.1 thing make sense with my experience.
I get some stability runing buffer set at 1024 and some plugins.
But with buffer set at 256, my systems is prone to crash anyway.

Ok, full crashes yesterday using older project with native plugs only, multiple audio streams to my analogue mixer. Saved as a new template, crashes with no audio imported.
New session (2trck mastering) today with all 3 MW plugs, spdif output only....no problems at all.
I think it must be linked with older projects in 5.1 environment. Even the template was corrupted. I think I can rule out the plugs as the culprit.
I am mixing some new jazz stuff this week where I have to start from fresh so we'll see. It may be the multiple audio streams that cause the problem (surround comes up in the crash log an awful lot) so could point to the Motu audio driver and DP.
I really wish I knew what I was doing!

How much memory are you guys running???
Ive only seen a couple people list out memory specs....
Just curious.
Still cruising along with no problems. launched an old 3.11 session just for kicks. No hassles....

2gig of ram here.
I created a new 5.1 session today, loaded a few MW plugs and left it open. Fine when I came back 2 hours later, played it, tweaked a MW eq and it crashed!
Put it on a loop without MW for an hour, no crash.
I seems to be slightly different each time. I use very little internal procesing as I mix outside the box anyway.

I am so baffled as to the cause of these crashes.
I've tried sessons created in 4.6 and new sessions, no plugs, lots of plugs.
Some days i'll open a project thats been crashing all day, and the next day, it will run for 4 hours, and I didn't change a thing.
I'm so close to reformatting. I don't know though, its such a pain, and I really don't think it will fix anything. But I can't be sure unless I try.
I just started a new session today, and it crashed 5 times in 10 minutes, and now its been fine for 20 minutes.
I find that alot of my crashes happen when I am assigning ins and outs.

Hi cchord59,
I feel your pain, I've been through this.
Did you apply ALL few Motu tech-suport advices ?
They are listed above in this topic.
Including latest drivers, latest OS, latest DP ?
You could also proced to a complete extended hardware test. Just to exclude this cause of malfunction.
With all these, my system is not crash free, but I can get some work done between crashes. Wich is NOT for me a definitive solution.
I wonder why these crashes are so unconsistant.
I guess it could be related to OSX virtual memory usage. Cause it is one important thing that changes a lot from one session to another.
Even with 2GoRam, I noticed that the virtual memory usage is still huge for DP. Access time are to be extremely different for data in Ram and data in virtual memory.
Who knows ?

Im having the same problems with dp crashing suddenly up to 15 times a day, mostly when running older projects, but from time to time just as well with new ones. Im really at a loss for words here how DP manage to release an intel version thats so buggy it hurts and hasnt come up with an update yet after weeks and weeks to manage even a few problems:::
Im using this software proffesionally, as a lot here probably do, and i didnt fork out 3K for a new macpro that has a bit of software running thats so badly made ...
MOTU.....we can deal with a few bugs, bit i for one have no time for this...#
if there is no updqte within weeks, im switchin platforms .

Everybody probably tried this, but.....
Have you tried loading the project into a new file ?
Rebuilt the I/O bundles ?
Does it make a difference ?
Are the Crash-logs the same after you have loaded the project into a new file, and rebuilt the I/O bundles ?
Best
