I posted many times about this bug
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=44574
( input monitor level not he same as playback level
in hardware playthru mode with a 896mk3 with fader setting below unity )
Is this fixed ?
Would love to hear from 896mk3 / 896mk3H - DP 8 - users
Hope Motu sees this one, it's been carried over from at least DP 4.61..

Thanks

Klaus

Still there. I don't have a steady external test source handy, but using a compressed guitar with sustained chords into the 828 Analog 3 input, the DP fader on this channel set to 0, output to Main, I get about -6 db on the Cuemix Outputs. Dropping the DP fader to -24 drops this meter to about -18. (Cuemix mixer busses and outputs muted).

See the video.

Thanks a lot bayswater for reporting.
This still means a recording session run exclusively from DP ( without Cuemix FX ) needs cumbersome workarounds like i.e different mixes for rec and playback
in mix mode...

Can't understand why this isn't a high priority thing...

I have reported this to Motu already since DP 4.61...
andI hope Motu reads this ...

Klaus, while there is an error here, and while you'd think MOTU would be concerned about basic things like the accuracy of meters, it is not clear to me why this has to stop us from using the application. We know what the difference is between the reported levels and the real levels. So while it might involve a little mental arithmetic, we know what the levels are.

I may have been unclear...
Set up a recording session, including input monitoring via the blue input switch, set
listening levels and record.
Roll back and listen to the recording,
and that's where I hear a different mix, I have to readjust the playback mix and save and switch between mixes for recording and playback...

It is not just meters cosmetics... It's the actual level

Please use a real source like a tonegenerator, I use audiofinder and route the output of the mac back to the input, and please use a voltmeter and measure the level,
it is NOT about the displayed level, but the actual level, volts, dB, you name it, that is wrong.
Attenuation of the fader by an amount in dB is actually attenuating the level only half in dB.
You reduced the fader by 24dB and your level actually dropped only 12 dB in the video,
so is the level.

Sorry if I was unclear...

OK, fair enough, but still you know the direction and size of the error, and can account for it when recording, or playback, or whenever the error occurs.

BTW, I tried the test while playing back a recorded sine wave. In that case, reducing the levels on the playback channel in DP reduced the output level showing in both DP meters and Cuemix meters by the same amount, and by the amount expected according to the fader position. Is that what you'd expect?

Yes during playback,
but that's not so during input monitoring via blue input button...

It is the fader attenuation vs actual level attenuation that differs in rec and play mode...

Rec: Reduce fader from 0dB to -24dB reduces the actual level only by 12 dB
Play: Reduce fader from 0dB to -24dB reduces the actual level by 24dB.

The playback mix is not the same as the input monitor mix...
How is that not so important ?
Sorry to insist..

I don't mean that it's not important. A basic error in the function of the applications should be fixed. I'm just saying that if we know what the error is we can work around it. Using your example, if you want to reduce output by 3 db on record, you know you have to pull the fader down by 6 db. Not a trivial workaround, but not a fatal error.

It would be interesting to know what MOTU thinks about this.

With a multitrack like 18 ch or so, one should readjust 18 channels on playback ?
remember, it is different every time, if you touch the mix...

Me too would like to hear something about this from Motu, since I reported this since DP 4.61

Magic D ?
Anybody else ?

I don't think any other DAW behaves like this...
at least I never heard...

Have you tried it with any other audio apps?

i.e. Pro Tools and it's hardware, or RME ?
I think the web would be full of complaints... if such a level bug would be present...

No, just using Cuemix. Is there no other application that links to Cuemix the same way as DP?
