FWIW I use a 1st gen Macbook, an ultralite and 5.11 on location about 3 days/week. I'm doing classical audio, usually 6-8 tracks @ 24/44.1 and while I'm not dealing with any sync situations (as you may be) it's been rock solid for 7-8 months.

It may be moot at this point but if it's still an issue, use the ethernet port. It's slow (10baseT) but start it, go to bed and when you get up all the tracks will be in your computer.
