You didn't mention budget, so I don't know if this is out of your range, but have you looked at the Grace products? I have a 201 (the 2 channel version). They also make an 8 channel. The sound is VERY transparent and it's built like a tank. It's my first choice pre. I tend to like dedicated componen...

I have a couple of old NT2's. Anyone know the specific differences between them and the NT2A's.

I noticed DP inspected Apple's AU plugins after the update. I wonder if Apple replaced any other audio stuff in this release.

I updated through software update. No problems so far.

Progress report/ Thank you

A while back I asked for advice on recording a rather long concert. The concert was this past weekend (it turned out to be 2 1/2 hours). Thanks to all who replied. The suggestions I got for backup systems were excellent. I ended up using two ADATs in tandem as my backup system, clocking them off a R...

Yeah, me too. Are there any other compressors you know of that allow sidechaining from a bus in DP?

One thing I've been doing is getting EQ snapshots of cues for the sake of comparitive listening, but this doesn't tell the whole story, either. I'm thinking the EQ of added reverb has as much to do with "that" sound as the EQ of the original tracks. (Or more precisely, the combination of ...

Re: Motu tech support plays dumb me thinks

I brought the issue of the original post on this thread to their attention and they acted like it was news to them. Did you get the feeling they took you seriously? Sometimes I think the boneheads in tech support don't pass this info on to the software engineers. This has been more and more my asse...

Re: DP and The Cinema Sound: Poll

Anyway, re: dialogue -- It tends to sound the way it does because it's usually recorded with shotguns or lavalier mics, neither of which are renowned for sparkling richness. Practical shoot needs supercede aural fidelity desires. Gotta hide the mic from camera view. Actually I was thinking about th...

Re: DP and The Cinema Sound: Poll

That was my original take on the thread as well, Phil, though I was thinking of it in terms of musical audio, rather than the general audio of voice and sound effects. It's all about how to achieve the special needs placed upon film composers to think beyond the music in terms of complimenting what...

I noticed that "edge edit copy" was turned off after i'd installed v.5.x, and I had to turn it back on. This couldn't be the root of any of your bass drum editing problems, top-sample-cd-designer? :D I tried it with "edge edit copy" both off and on, and got the same results. Damn!

Re: DP and The Cinema Sound: Poll

Ah, your Hobbit is at it again. Sorry for being a nuisance, but I love picking people's brains. What constitutes a "cinema sound"? If I may be so bold as to open a can of worms, I'd like to go back to Frodo's original question. Which was about cinema sound - not necessarily music. It seem...

Any more insights to the analog v digital summing debate? Of those tools which are supposed to be "transparent", there must be some sort of non-error-related characteristic-- or no? Like Splinter, I'm an old analog person myself. A lot of my old gear I designed and built myself. (yes I'm ...
