Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

There's a lot there. I don't really know if it's possible to make software that is both immediately intuitive AND extremely powerful. I hear what you're saying and I wasn't meaning to say that every single feature needs to be immediately intuitive to the point of never needing a manual. It goes wit...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

All I will say is from what I've read it's tough for DAW developers to find programmer talent because good programmers can make much better money, with better benefits in just about any other industry. Music related software is rather niche. Someone good can make better money working for Boeing or ...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

Luxurious! Silicon Valley companies have the dough. Most audio companies don't. I don't disagree with that, but labeling it as luxurious is naive at best. I can assure you all the companies in silicon valley are just as concerned about cutting costs and producing as much as they can for the lowest ...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

Almost all DAW development teams are 3-5 people. Cockos Reaper is 2, maybe 3 now, Bitwig is the same etc. I'm not a developer but it was explained to me that over 4-5 people it gets to where you're breaking things the others are working on. You I suppose could break out plugin development from that...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

I have a hard time believing there are less than 20k DP users, 20,000 users worldwide is a possible 4 million in upgrades every three years or so. That's more than enough money for 3-5 developers to work on DP during that time and still turn a solid profit. I don't know if they have 20k users at th...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

100% LogicPro is stiff competition for sure...because of that fact. But it hasn't stopped Steinberg. They continue to come out regularly with Cubase upgrades, which always have just enough new featurism to get all their users to jump on the bandwagon and upgrade. They have a lot of momentum. The cos...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

well I agree James, but to be honest, the future of DP is more likely to be over and out if it continues on the trend you are pointing out. And you may not be wrong..but that is the just the reality. Look what's happening to Finale now. It can happen.

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

DP needs to find its niche again. For a long time it was the tool of choice for film score guys but a lot of them have switched over to Logic and Cubase in droves. A few still stay with DP, it's what they know. I have preached many times to people about the virtues of DP with chunks and many other f...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

In reality it has to be a little of both. I use the other DAW's too, Cubase, Logic...they all have bugs and all their users complain about the same way as here. None of them are exempt from this. People jump ship to other DAW's hoping to have less bugs and usually find out they are there too. These ...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

I'm just throwing out simple very generic areas that MOTU can and should improve DP in order to attract a larger share of the market. I personally don't have any particular problem with the GUI and if you asked me what I want them to work on it would be other things that benefit me and probably thin...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

everyone has their own list of specifically what they want in DP12. Make your voice known to MOTU. In any case, paying for a subscription up front in my view will definitely not promise anything, but I am definitely more than willing to pay for more regular updates to DP, if they spent more time wor...

Re: Digital Performer 11.33 version

By the way... I know Avid does this, and PreSonus is now doing this... and I don't want to make anybody angry at me... but it may be that MOTU needs to explore a way of generating more revenue. I know, like Avid, PreSonus is now doing a similar arrangement where you get a perpetual license, but you...

Re: What are your favorite reverb plugins?

This question is really dependent on what you're trying to do with it...and there are so many great reverbs out there now,...some with particular things they do well of course...Even some free ones that sound quite good. And honestly a lot of it is purely subjective and depends on the source materia...
