Just to conclude this. My unit is beyond repair, or so MOTU support have told me. I tested with an old iMac with an old firewire cable and it distorts 100% of the time now on both computers.
Well I guess it outlived 3 computers!

Re: Digital distortion with Motu 828
That's very kind of you, Mike. I did live in the Bay Area for a long time but, alas, I'm in Dublin, Ireland now!

Re: Digital distortion with Motu 828
My distortion is back with a vengeance and is happening in Mavericks too. Will have to get in touch with Motu, see if anything can be done.

Re: Digital distortion with Motu 828
I haven't really been getting the distortion the last few days, funnily enough. Maybe it's sorting itself out somehow.
Or I wonder could it be an overheating issue? I'll see how things go.

Digital distortion with Motu 828
I recently moved my studio and since then I've noticed digital distortion coming through my Motu 828. I'm using the original 828 and it's worked brilliantly for me all these years. This is an intermittent problem. It might happen twice an hour or 20 times in the same period. One thing I have noticed...

Re: Sidechain Compression for Pumping Effect
The part you might be missing is having your pad or whatever sound you want pumping outputted to the Aux with the Dynamics plug. Here's a step by step: 1) Record a continuous sound, a synth pad works best for illustration. 2) Set the output of this pad track to bus 11-12 (it can be any unused bus, o...

Re: Is there a way to do this?
I realise this is probably not the answer you're looking for but in the Sequence editor just clicking on an edit point will bring it up for editing and show you on the left hand side exactly what it is you're editing. No need for excessive mouse action. There is a colour scheme too so it gives you s...

Re: AU delays and reverbs that work in DP
Most of the time I add my fx through aux tracks and I NEVER have this problem.... not sure what could be causing it. +1. I think this is the same in Logic as well. I usually don't put delays on inserts but will test it out in my other daws to see if they all work the same. Sent from my iPad using T...

Re: AU delays and reverbs that work in DP
I have a feeling that this might be a DP issue. I could be wrong and I've sent a support request to Rob Papen so I can see what he says. I get the impression from reading this forum that not a huge percentage of people here use DP's virtual instruments regularly. I like them but I find them a bit bu...

Re: AU delays and reverbs that work in DP
Prior to DP 7 (maybe DP 6?) applying an audio plug to a soundbite that was not long enough to accommodate a tail would result in a similar issue. Currently, that is still the case, however you can now select beyond the soundbite and select MERGE SOUNDBITE in the audio menu and the resulting merged ...

Re: AU delays and reverbs that work in DP
Yeah most of them were free. I did pay for the Rob Papen delay so that's disappointing. I really love the TAL delays and the Soundhack ones are useful too so again it's a bit annoying. I did think when I noticed it that it was a recurrence of the soundbite issue so at least it's more specific. Might...

Re: AU delays and reverbs that work in DP
Thanks for the responses. Let me ask you this, did you do the test with your plugs with the sampler? I have the issue with the sampler only so I was wrong to say it occurs with a regular soundbite. (It used to be the case). Can you guys check your plugs with the sampler and let me know the results? ...

Re: AU delays and reverbs that work in DP
The decay only lasts as long as the soundbite file. In other words, if you have a short soundbite the delay will work for the length of that soundbite, then cut off abruptly. The reason I suggested testing this using the sampler is that it illustrates the problem perfectly because you can either pla...

AU delays and reverbs that work in DP
Can anyone recommend a way to get certain Audio Unit delay plugs working properly within DP? Or maybe we could get a list going of plugs that do work. Audio Unit virtual instruments are fine as are plugs without a decay but I seem to have had this problem for as long as I remember. Here's the best w...
